3.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle from Systembolaget. Pours hazy and pale, with a froth head that quickly settles to a thin layer. It’s not a looker - it looks terribly thin. Those poor monks had to do with the second or third runnings... It looks like a wheat beer but the thin head tells the truth that there is none or very little wheat in the malt bill. The aroma is more promising. The chimay yeast comes through in a way we don’t feel it do in the other beers, where it is hidden behind more flavorfull malts. It’s sweet and citrusy, maybe some butterscotch hints too. Very entising. However, the flavor lets the beer down. It is thin. The pilsner malt cannot carry the taste alone and the hops comes in to play first string. In the back of the mouth some of the citrus is still there but is a refreshing beer at best. Just not enough flavour. High effervecence and light mouthfeel puts the closing chapter on a negative note. I understand why it was a beer for the monks only.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Hazy golden colour with white head. Hints of yeast, citrus, lemongrass. A smooth beer with aslightly bitter aftertaste. Even though it is not as strong as the three commercial chimay beers, i prefer this one because it is not as sweet as they are. Definitely worth tasting!

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
330ml bottle from Tallinn. Hazy gold colour, large mostly vanishing rocky white head, good lacing. Aroma of caramel, pepper, pear, floral hops and dough. Taste is initially very balanced, turning into a smooth bittersweet finish. Medium body, oily texture, lively carbonation. Quite an inoffensive trappist beer, still a bit more aroma than Leffe and the likes.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
A few bottle shared with good friends in Bodø. 330ml bottles from Vinmonopolet Bodø Sentrum. Huge rocky white head to a hazy golden body. Sweet fruity nose added by spices. Plums, sweet malts, and pears to the taste buds supported by a spicy touch. Bittersweet, more sweet than bitter, finish. Easy to drink, not much happening, just alright (Die BierStube, Bodø 28.02.2014).

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours hazy gold with smooth white head. Lots of yeast on the bottom. Slightly sour, malty notes on the nose, like a typical belgian white. Very smooth mouthfeel, but a bit lacking in depth. Slightly sour, low spiciness (clove, coriander), good amount of hops. Not bad; a good session beer.

2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle, fall 2013. Hazy yellow color wth two fingers white foam, some lacings. Aroma is typical belgian blonde, with citrus, hay, apricots, cloves, grass. Taste is about the same, albeit more anonymous than expected (even for a blonde on 4,8%). Dry ending. Medium body, lots of carbo. Will work on a hot summer day.
