3.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle from Systembolaget. Pours hazy and pale, with a froth head that quickly settles to a thin layer. It’s not a looker - it looks terribly thin. Those poor monks had to do with the second or third runnings... It looks like a wheat beer but the thin head tells the truth that there is none or very little wheat in the malt bill. The aroma is more promising. The chimay yeast comes through in a way we don’t feel it do in the other beers, where it is hidden behind more flavorfull malts. It’s sweet and citrusy, maybe some butterscotch hints too. Very entising. However, the flavor lets the beer down. It is thin. The pilsner malt cannot carry the taste alone and the hops comes in to play first string. In the back of the mouth some of the citrus is still there but is a refreshing beer at best. Just not enough flavour. High effervecence and light mouthfeel puts the closing chapter on a negative note. I understand why it was a beer for the monks only.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
en del koriander og lidt frugt. Synes ikke jeg kan smage den klassiske belgiske gær i den, men det er måske bare mig :-)

2.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
Pours hazy light brown/amber with an off-white head. The aroma contains yeast, plums, orange, grass and hops. It tastes light bitter to light sweet. Rather watery and soapy mouthfeel, short dry finish, high carbonation. Would it be rated as highly without the Chimay label? I doubt it. Quite poor to me.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Pours a hazy gold with a high, white, smooth head. Nose is orange, orange peel (I could smell the pith), peach, coriander, vanilla, and an earthy/mushroomy note. On the tongue, the spice is well controlled; it’s orange forward, but not dominantly so, with a very faint sweetness and a substantial body for its ABV. Finish is long, dry, and earthy, with the typical Chimay profile. I like it.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Opaque light copper with a small off white foam. Light on the spice side, hint of banana, some lemon, nothing overwhelming, a little shy. A little sweet, tartness could be found. Full body, creamy with a lively carbonation. Long honey finish.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Poured from distinctive 11.2 fl.oz. tapered brown glass bottle. Hazy orange colour with sudsy beige foam, everlasting with lace. Aromas of husky grains, coriander and sweet citrus, apricots, honey, fresh baked bread. Flavour the same, grainy, biscuity, plus faint black pepper, clove, slight caramel sweetness but with a surprisingly crisp dry hoppy finish. Not overly spiced, but it is indeed a nice enhancement to a sessionable table beer. Light body, strong carbonation, lingering malty/citrusy/tangy aftertaste. Easily an everyday drinker but also wonderfully complex, a near-perfect beer. Magnificent!
