Bottle from Systembolaget. Pours hazy and pale, with a froth head that quickly settles to a thin layer. It’s not a looker - it looks terribly thin. Those poor monks had to do with the second or third runnings... It looks like a wheat beer but the thin head tells the truth that there is none or very little wheat in the malt bill. The aroma is more promising. The chimay yeast comes through in a way we don’t feel it do in the other beers, where it is hidden behind more flavorfull malts. It’s sweet and citrusy, maybe some butterscotch hints too. Very entising. However, the flavor lets the beer down. It is thin. The pilsner malt cannot carry the taste alone and the hops comes in to play first string. In the back of the mouth some of the citrus is still there but is a refreshing beer at best. Just not enough flavour. High effervecence and light mouthfeel puts the closing chapter on a negative note. I understand why it was a beer for the monks only.

Bottle, 330 ml, shared with JFK10000. Pours golden, medium white head. Flowery, perfumy, malty, fruit, yeast. Light bodied. Sweet. Dry. Not my thing. Quite disappointed with this one.

Lätt grumlig med fint skum. Doftar lite halm och malt. Smaken frisk och brödig. Eftersmaken svagt besk och hyggligt lĺng. Ganska kraftigt kolsyrad.

Bottle at the Back of Beyond (JDW), Reading. Hazy gold with a light fizz & a large white head that rapidly diminishes to soap suds. Very sweet candy aroma and taste initially, but watery too; like a sweet shop has pissed in it. Bit of bananary Belgian yeast. Some cardboard and metal in the finish. Definitely thin. Dismal, an insult to the Trappist brand. I bet if this was made by A-B instead of Chimay it would get a far lower rating on here!

Dit bier heeft de typische Chimaygistsmaak. Het is een zacht bier, met tonen van citrus. Duidelijk een mildere variant van de tripel.

33cl bottle from Beer52.com. A gushing, cloudy, pale straw coloured pour with a billowing white head; yeasty aroma; soft and soapy in the mouth, with a thin grainy taste; and a light spicy bitterness giving some gingery warmth. Disappointing.

Hazy golden body, medium white head. Aroma of belgian yeast, spicies, flowers and grass. Similar flavours. Medium crispy dry bitter spicy finish. Well made. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

33cl bottle. Hazy, dirty yellow with huge head. Aroma is grains, caramel, yeasty dough, bread with butter and sugar, lemon peel. Soft but strong carbonation. The beer is easy to drink but not much taste there. Reminds a watered down soapy Wit with a bit more bitter hops but still nothing interesting. Finish is soap.

bottle @ Party Town / Florence KY --- Aroma of clean malt and clean laundry. Hazy light amber color, big sudsy white head that is slow to settle, large piles of lace. Taste is light malt that is bathed in carbonation. Yeast and very simple bittering complete the brew. Light and refreshing, doesn’t seem like Chimay, but, it is good, and I’ll have it again.

Hatalmas, nagyon tartós hab, borostyán szín. Kissé búzás jellegű belgian ales illatvilág, erős citrusos, korianderes vonással. Könnyed belga apátsági, jól megkorianderezve, citrusos beütéssel. Hosszú utóíze a korty folytatása. Közepesen testes.

Bottle at PIB 2016, pours a hazy pale golden yellow with a small white head. Aroma brings out light biscuity malt and Belgian yeast. Flavour is very restrained, with Belgian yeast and light biscuity malt. Very mellow but clean and refreshing. Solid.
