Bottle at DHVL. Thanks to Ken, MadMitch for buying this. I’ve been looking for this for ages and man, what a let down. Cardboard and wet dog aroma.. Bit of puke on the aroma. On the evening, I would rather have drunk the Minty.

A Mes rate. bottle at DHVL.
Gorgeous pale gold with a really good white head. Smells like a Chimay plus a strange but very pleasant note of liquorice and plenty of spice and yeast. The flavour is just like the aroma and it works really well. Even better in fact. It drinks a little above its strength. The only thing that gives it away is the body. Unusual and effortlessly downable. Great stuff.

Bottle at Kulminator. Pours a cloudy, brownish, orange-amber hue with a tall head of fluffy, spongy, off-white foam. A bit of patchy, sheety foam affixes itself to the glass, clinging hard. It’s really quite a pretty looking beer. The aroma is simple but pleasant, showing notes of sweetened cereal grain, toasted bread, and lightly caramelized candy sugar. Mild hops lend a balancing floral character. Flavors follow suit, sweet and fresh cereal grain dominating, though the floral hops lend a surprising amount of peppery spice. The moderate body starts smooth, finishing with a bit if stinging carbonation that intensifies the spiciness of the hops. Though this isn’t a stellar brew, I can certainly see why the monks brewed this easy going, tasty session brew for themselves. Nice, sessionable singel.

Tap at Auberge de Poteaupre. Peach and apple malt aroma. Cloudy orange-yellow color with small head. Lightly acidic peach-lemon malt flavor. Very pleasant - very witbier-like. Would love to have this beer regularly.

This is the brewery tap beer preserved previously for the monks of Chimay. Its not often I drink a beer before midday, and before breakfast. The first beer I was not able to get the bottle to keep, as only available now on cask at the Chimay brewpub - which was something of a disappointment. Drunk alongside a Chimay sandwich impeccably served on a Chimay cheeseboard. Served gruffly in a tall thin Chimay ADS tumbler, while my fiancee necked the stronger Tripel (I was driving). Not much head to talk of and very cloudy; quite wheaty in essence. Dry and fruity and definitely akin to grapefruit, not unlike the Dendermonde Tripel. This is a nice beer, and the monks definitely get Value for Money !

Bottle. Thanks Dedollewaitor. Pours hazy copper coloured with a big bubbly off white head. Aromas of yeast, grain, bread and mild hops. Flavour of rye bread, caramel, yeast and hops. A bit thin and watery..

Mmmmmmm......... monks private reserve beer. This beer has a hazy brown body with a slight orange hue, and a massive white fluffy head that starts to disappear after a couple of minutes however the last quarter inch of cap wont go away. This stuff smells ungood, sour dish soup with maybe a touch of skunk, it all comes together to remind me of vomit, I got to say the smell of this stuff isn’t making me excited to drink the beer. The taste is surprisingly like a hefe minus the banana and spice, tons of yeast and wheat malt, make up the only flavors I can detect. The mouth feel is very thin and watery with a sour chalky aspect that dries out your mouth leaving you with pasties. The after taste is a metallic corn flavor, but this might not be accurate because there is a big pot of corn on the cob boiling in the kitchen right now and this might of influenced me. This brew is very light tasting and easy drinking but is nothing special but if you can get a hold of it a sudjest you do because of the extreme rarity of the brew.

Thanks Brad for spending an unknown sum of money to get this from Europe! Murky light brownish orange. Poured a monster white head that arose quickly like champagne, so pour it carefully. Pretty good lacing too. The aroma is dominated by the yeast and is backed up with malt, but mostly yeast; ends with a slight sour note. This stuff may just be liquid yeast. The initial flavour tricked my tastebuds into thinking my mouth was getting a watered down version of a Weizen. Very dry and chalky taste. Lots and lots of yeast and the slightest ammount of lemon. Tastes like beer foam. My mouth is soooo dry. The dryness builds like a slow heat does - one that catches up with you after a couple of minutes. I both like and don’t like this strange dryness. Dry and soft. Light bodied. Yeast yeast yeast yeast yeast.....
