Bottle Conditioned - 75 cl, and 33 cl bottles.
Ingredients: Pilsner malt (French barley from Champagne); wheat starch or flour (10% - 15%); dextrose (5%); malt extract (0.1%); hop extract from German Hallertaur (aroma) & American Galena (bittering) hops. Yeast & liquid invert sugar added to the bottled beer.
Chimay Red is noted for its coppery colour which makes it particularly attractive. Topped with a creamy head, it gives off a light, fruity apricot aroma produced by the fermentation. The taste perceived in the mouth is a balance confirming the fruity nuances noticed in the fragrance. Its taste, which imparts a silky sensation to the tongue, is made refreshing by a light touch of bitterness. To the palate, the taster perceives a pleasant astringency which complements the flavour qualities of this beer very harmoniously. This top fermented Trappist beer, refermented in the bottle, is not pasteurised.

Bottle at home. Hazy brown liquid, small beige head. Lively carbonation. Aroma of malts and yeast, notes of banana and raisin. Medium to heavy sweetness and heavy bitterness. Very good.

On tap. At some point I thought Chimay Blue was the end all be all of beers. It’s still a classic and one of the best beers in the world, but somehow I overlooked this dubbel. Beautiful pour, slightly lighter and more transparent than the Blue. Aroma is fragrant apples or peaches with some spice. Extremely smooth beer that is both light yet complex. Silky with notes of raisin, sweet sugar, and minimal yet pleasing bitterness. Fantastic. Chimay is truly one of the best in the world.

I’m not sure which one i prefer between this one and Chimay Blanche (White), but it’s a solid choice for every occasion. Of course this is not as good as the Blue one, but it’s very delectable. Very light aroma of red fruit and that specific Chimay taste that never disappoint. Very cool. APPROVED BY TAVERNY’S BLACK METAL CREW !

Espuma blanquecina compacta y permanente, color ambar cobrizo y bastante turbio, aroma ligero en nariz, sabor donde se combinan tonos dulces con amargos y notas picantes con regusto sabroso

I do not wax on poetically about beer but I do know the quality of a beer once tasted. This review is not about my tastes but reinforces the numbers, which are arbitrary.

Brown hazy beer. Descent head stays. Nice sour, hoppy aroma. SLightly bread and bitter taste. You can feel hops and few notes of honey as well in taste. Medium body, actually quite light. Good beer, but nothing extraordinary.

Copper turbid pour with small off-copper head. Nose of sweet stone fruit, yeast. Taste is sweet with mild tart edge, yeast, vague warm spice, mildly bitter hop finish.

Murky brown colour, average head, dense, no lacing. Aroma is caramel, yeast, dark fruit hints. Taste is dominantly sweet with a caramel malt base, sugar, dark/dried fruit notes. Maybe a slight hint of earthiness. A bit too much on the sweet side for my liking. Medium body, soft mouthfeel, slightly prickly on the tongue. Lacks character
