COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle Conditioned - 75 cl, and 33 cl bottles.
Ingredients: Pilsner malt (French barley from Champagne); wheat starch or flour (10% - 15%); dextrose (5%); malt extract (0.1%); hop extract from German Hallertaur (aroma) & American Galena (bittering) hops. Yeast & liquid invert sugar added to the bottled beer.
Chimay Red is noted for its coppery colour which makes it particularly attractive. Topped with a creamy head, it gives off a light, fruity apricot aroma produced by the fermentation. The taste perceived in the mouth is a balance confirming the fruity nuances noticed in the fragrance. Its taste, which imparts a silky sensation to the tongue, is made refreshing by a light touch of bitterness. To the palate, the taster perceives a pleasant astringency which complements the flavour qualities of this beer very harmoniously. This top fermented Trappist beer, refermented in the bottle, is not pasteurised.

Dark red colour with a good head, very nice brune, it says Brune on the bottle but is known as Chimay Red?

bottle@home: least impressive of the Chimay’s, heavy on dark red fruits & malts, some caramelised brown sugar, spice, minor spiced hops, middling, bit thin body

reddish brown and slightly hazy primary nose is green bell peppers w/ some sweet malt (toffee) and yeast background med/full body and very fizzy. it erupts in your mouth. it’s weird how it fizzes up so much in your mouth. i’m not liking this. some bubble gum, some green veg, some yeast, but they don’t all come together well.

Reddish brown but slightly murky. Strawberries and spice against the sweet malt background. More strawberries and some cherries on the taste. Solid structure with a tight acidity (yogurty) finish.

Bottle in Brussels. Unclear brown - offwhite head. Raisins. Fruity. Yeasty. Dried fruits. Dark bread. Phenols. Sweetness. Light nutty. Light metallic aroma. Ok.

A red abbey dubbel that is somewhat inferior compared to the other Chimay beers.

Pours cloudy earthy brown with gigantic fluffy cream-colored head. Aromas of metal, sweet spice, apple, squash bread. Taste is medium sweet/tart, notes of clove, licorice, molasses, tart cherry, banana, and a light bitterness reminiscent of pumpernickel. Medium body, lively carbonation, smooth texture. Complex, layered, rich, nice.

A great trappist, but not the best Chimay definetely. Has an extravagant taste but yet with not a variety of flavours. The aroma is of a roasted alcochol something like a barnyard-if you know what I’m saying (yeah you do since you are in a beer loving site).

medium head, red brown rich colour. balanced flavour, just the right amount of hopiness. smoothest trappist i’ve had. fairly carbinated. very mellow.
