COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle Conditioned - 75 cl, and 33 cl bottles.
Ingredients: Pilsner malt (French barley from Champagne); wheat starch or flour (10% - 15%); dextrose (5%); malt extract (0.1%); hop extract from German Hallertaur (aroma) & American Galena (bittering) hops. Yeast & liquid invert sugar added to the bottled beer.
Chimay Red is noted for its coppery colour which makes it particularly attractive. Topped with a creamy head, it gives off a light, fruity apricot aroma produced by the fermentation. The taste perceived in the mouth is a balance confirming the fruity nuances noticed in the fragrance. Its taste, which imparts a silky sensation to the tongue, is made refreshing by a light touch of bitterness. To the palate, the taster perceives a pleasant astringency which complements the flavour qualities of this beer very harmoniously. This top fermented Trappist beer, refermented in the bottle, is not pasteurised.

Big creamy beige head deep red cloudy colour. Smell is yeasty, sweet, dark fruit, but the yeast dominates. Flavour is yeasty and very vinous there is also some hops in the aftertaste. Mouthfeel is very crisp with heavy carbonation, medium bubbles. This beer was very good it’s big brother is a bit better, but this is also great! Serving type: bottle

This is probably my favorite of the Chimay beers. It’s just so good and so smooth. Great with a meal, a perfect example of the dubbel style.

33 cl bottle. Dark red color with a huge thick light brown head. Aroma of sweet malts. Flavor of sweet malts and sugar. Very nice and smooth. Not that complex as the blue one.

750ml Bottle. Pour with thick head, a dark red color. Malty yet sweet aroma. Taste fruity with a hint of citrus. Too drunk to give this a proper description.

From the 750ml bottle. I have had this many times, but when I decided to rate it, it turned out to be amazingly disappointing. Nothing was wrong with the bottle or its age, but this was not an interesting beer. Too young, maybe? Weak, somewhat vegetal aroma. Light body and light flavor, with not near enough malt. Very boring.

Aroma is very yeasty-bready, almost minty. Alcohol, candy sugar. Body is smooth, silky. Hints of tart fruit, malty just a bit of candy sugar. Very smooth, carbonated just right. Its pretty mellow and very balanced and clean. Nice one.

Nice dark red beer. Pours with thick, creamy head. Nice fruity, bitter flavor, though not quite as good as the Chimay white variety, which I like much better.

Hazy red colour. Some malt in the aroma together with some candy sweetness. Quite a metallic taste with some bitter cocoa-like malt coming through in the aftertaste.

Bottle 330ml, 2008. Hazy copper colour, small light brown head. Fruity aroma, citrus and kiwi in it. Pretty light body, taste has fresh fruits, raisin, hint of nuts; yeast in the finnish.

Pours a hazy amber color, very inviting. Has a very malty flavor, incredibly smooth, and just enough bite to balance out the sweet flavors. Has a nice thick feel, and carbonated just right. An excellent beer!
