COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle Conditioned - 75 cl, and 33 cl bottles.
Ingredients: Pilsner malt (French barley from Champagne); wheat starch or flour (10% - 15%); dextrose (5%); malt extract (0.1%); hop extract from German Hallertaur (aroma) & American Galena (bittering) hops. Yeast & liquid invert sugar added to the bottled beer.
Chimay Red is noted for its coppery colour which makes it particularly attractive. Topped with a creamy head, it gives off a light, fruity apricot aroma produced by the fermentation. The taste perceived in the mouth is a balance confirming the fruity nuances noticed in the fragrance. Its taste, which imparts a silky sensation to the tongue, is made refreshing by a light touch of bitterness. To the palate, the taster perceives a pleasant astringency which complements the flavour qualities of this beer very harmoniously. This top fermented Trappist beer, refermented in the bottle, is not pasteurised.

A Blend of caramel, malt and dark fruit on the nose. This is a smooth and rich Strong Belgian Ale, featuring caramel, figs, ripe berries and malt in the taste profile. The balance reflects the skill of the brewers and the medium body and fine effervescence add to the quality of this beer.

Considering this is the entry level Chimay offering, it is still outstanding. When I'm feeling a bit more casual, the Premiere Ale never disappoints. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Aroma: alcohol, peach. Appearance: hazy ruby color, nice beige head. Taste: medium bitterness (alcohol), peach, roasted malts. Palate: full body and high carbonation, bitter alcohol finish. Overall: I am strongly disappointed. Only alcohol and nothing more.

Bottle from The Crown (JDW), Berkhampsted on 16 March 2014. Poured a clear, deep ruby, with a very large, fluffy off-white head. Aroma of Belgian yeasts, redcurrent, spice and sweet malts. Initial flavours of berries, bready malt, caramel and candy sugar. Rich mouthfeel with lots of gentle carbonation. Finish is bitter sweet dry grains, toffee, yeast esters and coriander. Ubiquitous, but a classic for a good reason.
