3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Yeast, brown sugar, light fruit. Dull cloudy brown, huge off-white rocky head. Very nicely balanced initial; some tart fruit in mid -- overripe raisins and cherries; finish is smooth and sweet and then has a bit of acidity. Thin-medium body with a touch of astringency. A well-made beer, but not the most exciting dubbel. I do, however, have a soft spot for Chimay Red because (thanks to Richard H.) it was one of the first that got me into craft beer.

750ml bottle from the LCBO. Deep brown/ruby red body overtop a huge foamy head which diminished quickly leaving almost no lacing. Huge apricot notes, some wine-like qualities on the nose alongside cherry, apple and plum. The finish is more alcohol warmth than hops. Medium bodied with elevated alcohol which is well integrated. More sessionable than most of the same style.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
750ml bottle. Cloudy dark red copper body, big mocha head with decent retention, but watery lacing. Aroma of Belgian yeast and spices, candy sugar, caramel malt, a tad mineral. Smooth and light taste: yeast, candy sugar, lots of caramel malts, herbs. A strange metallic aftertaste.

"malty, dark fruit and a little spice in the nose and flavor...more subdued than i was expecting. tasted with the blue and white-this was #2 or 3. good, but there are many doubles out there more interesting."

On tap at Vancouver Craft Beer Market in Vancouver. Served in signature stemmed glass. A very decent dubbel, though I’m far more interested in tripels and quads generally. Slightly fruity, quite malty. 3.6.

By far one of the most unique and classic of the Abby ales. This is a standard in my house.

Buona birra, scura sull’ebano con schiuma color cappuccino. Odore di malto e vaniglia, uva sotto spirito. Non molto dolce all’imbocco, non trovo malto ma solo un po’ di prugne e tanta astringenza, quasi resinosa. Buono il retrogusto , all’uva. Birra OK, consistenza oleosa e corpo medio, rotondo. OK, niente di straordinario però. Buona beva

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
750ml bottle poured in its own chalice.
A: Nice bottle art, a classic. Imposing wired cork with a bright red label. Pours a cloudy dark amber to brown color with a medium beige head. Medium retention. It never disappears completely leaving not much lacings
S: Sweet on the nose. Brown bread, candy sugar, dark fruits (mainly plums), caramel malts and Belgian yeasts
T: Follows the nose. Brown bread, caramel malts, yeasts and a delicious hoppy and bitter end. Just a little bit of alcohol can be felt
M: Medium to heavy body. Creamy and molasses. Medium carbonation and reasonable bitter aftertaste
O: Delicious Belgian Dubbel. Mandatory to Belgian beer lovers

Mnie osobiście nie zachwycił. W smaku i z wyglądu wodnisty. Zdecydowanie poniżej oczekiwań.

cloudy reddish-brown color; fspicy, dark fruit aroma; a smooth, fruity dubbel with notes of dark fruit, apricots, raisins, and cherries, as well as nice Belgian yeast notes; smooth and pretty easy drinking for the style; an extremely tasty beer
