2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Ungstrup (26250) - Citizen of the universe, DENMARK - AUG 20, 2002
A beutiful dark brown color. It has a light aroma of fruit and a good head. It has a slight aroma of hop bitternes. It is very drinkable but somewhat boring. If I could choose between this and Chimay Bleu I would never drink Chimay Rouge (and I very seldom do)
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 yespr (25932) - Copenhagen O, DENMARK - AUG 5, 2007
33 cL bottle. Pours hazy brown/amber with a light brown, slight crispy and lasting head. Caramel malty sweet aroma with clear yeast traces. Sweet caramel and almost breadlike flavoured into the finish. Yeast does give the beer some more complex notes, but it is still my least favourite chimay. Good but not as good as the other 2.

UPDATED: JAN 9, 2006 (Bottle 33 cl) Muddy brownish colour with a beautiful rocky head. Extremely dry, more dry than bitter. Some chocolatey notes. Not as full-bodied as most other trappists, but still a very beautiful experience. 040993

UPDATED: JUN 24, 2007 red brown with creamy white head. Like the other chimays it has a lively carbonation. Defenetly a bit like the bleu but not as complex. It feels like a little bit less of everything. Ok finish! Re-rating june 07: 2001 bottle enjoyed at a quiet pub in Venezia: Muddy brown with good head. COMPLEX - Dark sweet fruits, malty, light alcohol, pleasant warmth, port notes - light spice. This experience was fantastic!
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 fiulijn (12179) - Malmö, DENMARK - JAN 14, 2003
UPDATED: DEC 30, 2010 2010-12-29, vintage 2001, 9 years old, 6-4-6-3-12=31 Brown color, hazy; generous head. It’s lively but not overcarbonated. Dry aroma of caramel and dust. The body is slim, the mouthfeel is dry, with dry caramel flavor and some ashy feeling. Quite bitter. Nothing special.
2009-12-31, vintage 2001, 8 years old, 7-5-6-3-13=34 Hazy red-dark-amber color; very lively bottle, big head, creamy. Malt and caramel aroma, strangely it’s also corky. The body is not weak, but thinning, with good caramel flavor, but a bit old too; in the end the body is thinner; there is still some bitterness, but only from the dark caramel. More a curiosity than a good beer: too old.
2003-01-14, vintage 1999, 3 years old, 8-5-6-3-14=36 Amber to dark-amber color, thin persistent head. Very nice aroma, complex: malt, caramel, curaçao, madeira and light porto wine. Medium body structure, dry, with some caramel, closer to a dunkel than a Belgian Abbey. Bitter dry final. The pale memory of the beer that it used to be.
