COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle Conditioned - 75 cl, and 33 cl bottles.
Ingredients: Pilsner malt (French barley from Champagne); wheat starch or flour (10% - 15%); dextrose (5%); malt extract (0.1%); hop extract from German Hallertaur (aroma) & American Galena (bittering) hops. Yeast & liquid invert sugar added to the bottled beer.
Chimay Red is noted for its coppery colour which makes it particularly attractive. Topped with a creamy head, it gives off a light, fruity apricot aroma produced by the fermentation. The taste perceived in the mouth is a balance confirming the fruity nuances noticed in the fragrance. Its taste, which imparts a silky sensation to the tongue, is made refreshing by a light touch of bitterness. To the palate, the taster perceives a pleasant astringency which complements the flavour qualities of this beer very harmoniously. This top fermented Trappist beer, refermented in the bottle, is not pasteurised.

Pours dark with a thick creamy head. Aroma of dark fruits, fig, plum, belgian yeast. Flavor folloes with a burst of fruit and a heavy mouthfeel. Bit of booze, but in a good way that accents the heavy fruit nicely. World class brew. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Dark brown colour, small head and sizzle centres going around the top. Nose can feel caramel, cinnamon, cardamom, dried fruits, raisin. Mouth receives some sourness, caramel, metal, nuts, cinnamon, plum. Good and classic Belgian beer!

Bottle 33cl. Nice dark brown color, thick and long lasting head. Taste has some sweetness but not too much. Lightly bitter. Beer is fizzy, long finish. Overall, very nice Chimay although I like the White better.

I got this 75 cl bottle together with a huge order from @Beergium. The cork says it’s bottled in 2015. Best before December 2019.

The beer pours hazy, red-brown with a huge, fluffy yellow head. About two finger high in my new Trappist-glass.

Nose: Caramel malt, fudge, dried fruit, plum, floral and herbal spices. Taste: Sweet chocolate, nuts, caramel, coriander, molasses, oak and plum.
Mouthfeel: Creamy, silky and smooth. Light carbonation. Complex texture. A nice smooth bitterness at the end.

Another excellent beer from Belgium. This dark ale is very rich in aroma and spices. Pours a dark amber colour with a big, light beige head that lasts quite long. Aroma and smell is mostly caramel and biscuits. High content of alcohol is somewhat masked by the sweetness - but it does hit hard. Loving it.

Draught at SBWF 2015. Big and lasting beighe head. Woody and phenolic aroma. Small wheat aroma and a mild phenolic taste.

Solid beer nothing more than that all the reviews have hit the highlights solid overall but too much in the aftertaste for me to drink a ton of.

Fruity! Taste of dried fruit which I can’t named of. Sweet and good alcohol, zero bitter! My favorite berry / dried fruit juice that contain some alcohol

Pours clear copper with a tan head. Nose is dark fruit and a little spice and yeast. Flavor is gentle and similar to the nose with a plum sticky finish. A little light for the style but good stuff.

This Trappist brew is a subtle middle-intensity malty ale, with caramel and fruity brown sugar malty notes, along with some yeasty sweetness. The appearance for me was a weak point, my bottle poured a hazy ember red hue with a minimal fizzy head, nice color but nothing exceptional. On the other hand, I loved the nutty and barley-caramel malt aroma, reminiscent of a baked apple pie. Taste is pleasantly fruity and sweet, Belgian yeast notes are present but understated. Enjoyable overall, but not my preferred abbey ale.

Bottle into wine glass. Burnt orange, bit of a mongering gem head. Nose is fruity, baked Apple, apricot, grape and yeast. Taste I’d similar,a rich malty red with just a touch of sweet. Mild hops in mid and back keep it refreshing and from being sticky. One of my first Belgians many years ago along with the blue, and still one of my favorites
