4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
DATE TASTED: February 10, 2014... GLASSWARE: Chimay 150th anniversary goblet...OCCASION: PSU/Illinois Sunday... APPEARANCE: dark mahogany body; thick, creamy off-white head that clings to the glass; cascading lacing... AROMA: bright, aromatic hops; some apple and pear bake in a soft, doughy aura; some ginger or allspice as well...PALATE: almost light-bodied, dry, and beguilingly drinkable presence; smooth and inviting...TASTE: grape, grapefruit, and soft pine resin--soft, pleasant, after-dinner cordial warmth; slightly acidic... OVERALL: revisiting the first beer to make me say, "Whoa," Keanu style--and the beer does not disappoint to create a drinking experience where the beer IS the moment...the Chimay family grows in strength, but the opener in the sampler outperforms most other breweries’ "first-ups by a long shot with drinkability and strength to spare...

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Reddish-brown color with medium, but stable head. Yeast aroma, a bit sour, some caramel, but not too intense. Sweetish banana taste in the beginning, some spices, but after some time in the mouth, it doesn’t really taste of anything anymore. Foamy, smooth mouthfeel, but hardly any finish at all besides a bit of alcohol - maybe a little bit of sourness, but I have a hard time sensing it. I am not really convinced of this one, considering it?s a Trappist beer; I like the blanche/tripel and the bleue better.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Foi a estrela da noite de degustação, precedida por uma Colorado Appia, uma Brooklyn East India Pale Ale e uma Affligem Blonde.
Realmente é uma cerveja menos complexa que a Chimay Blue, mas não faz feio de forma alguma.
Bela coloração avermelhada, bom creme, bastante persistente.
Frutada e quente. Um pouco licorosa.
Aroma frutado e médio.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a copper color with a creamy head that disappears leaving a long lasting lacing. Very malty with a bit of hop bitterness. Has a bit of a fruity presence. The mouth feel is off. I have not noticed this before, so wondering if my bottle is past its prime. It leaves a bit of a coating. Reminds me of a fragrance that you accidentally get a taste of. and coats the roof of the mouth. I know I have drank this years ago and loved it, so might have to do a rerate on another bottle.
