Bottle Conditioned - 75 cl, and 33 cl bottles.
Ingredients: Pilsner malt (French barley from Champagne); wheat starch or flour (10% - 15%); dextrose (5%); malt extract (0.1%); hop extract from German Hallertaur (aroma) & American Galena (bittering) hops. Yeast & liquid invert sugar added to the bottled beer.
Chimay Red is noted for its coppery colour which makes it particularly attractive. Topped with a creamy head, it gives off a light, fruity apricot aroma produced by the fermentation. The taste perceived in the mouth is a balance confirming the fruity nuances noticed in the fragrance. Its taste, which imparts a silky sensation to the tongue, is made refreshing by a light touch of bitterness. To the palate, the taster perceives a pleasant astringency which complements the flavour qualities of this beer very harmoniously. This top fermented Trappist beer, refermented in the bottle, is not pasteurised.

Excellent caramel color, smooth with mild flavor and top shelf taste, would love to drink it again but it?s too pricey at $9 per 12 oz. bottle from local bars, over $100 per case from distributors, it?s just not that good.

This was a 330ml bottle that was dated best before end of 2018 and poured into a Chimay goblet. It poured a very hazy brown colour with a very nice thick cream coloured two finger head that dissipates very slowly but when it does, leaves a nice curtain lacing. Aromas are fruity, mainly of dark fruits like plum, cherry, and fig. There is also some pear, apple and candied sugar and a hint of nuttiness. Fruity cherry and plum tastes upfront with hints of banana and pear. There’s also some light malt caramel and bready sweetness followed by a nice light bitter finish. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Smooth creamy and slightly sticky. Admittedly, I used to think that this was just ok but I’ve grown to enjoy this beer the more I drink it. When I first tried it maybe ten years ago, Chimay Blue was far and away better and so I mostly bought that. However, clearly my taste changed and the last few years Chimay Red became one of my staple beers.

Copenhagen 31/5 2015. 33 cl bottle from Fakta. The chummy little chubby bootle from Chimay. Very foamy upon opening slightly overflowing. Pours hazy orange brown with very big white head. Settles very slowly to a 1 cm thick creamy layer of foam. Intense aroma of characteristic Belgian yeast combined with fruity sweetness. Plum and caramel and a little spice. Medium carbonation. Taste is of caramel and yeast with a mild sour bitterness in aftertaste. Distinct notes of alcohol. Very Classic Belgian Bruin.

Bottel from Auchan, Luxembourg. Pours reddish-brown, hazy, nice white head. Nose is intense and fruity; I could discern cherry, lemon, cinnamon and plums. Taste is well balanced, fruity and not oo alcoholic, slight bitterness. Creamy and silky mouthfeel, long finish. Will drink again.

Bottiglia.

Predominantly sweet, with malt and caramel notes to it. It’s a nice beer, but with just few more cents I can get much better Blue Chimay.

Robe ruby sombre et un peu trouble, petit collet persistant. Aromes fruits noirs et chocolat. Ronde en bouche mais moins que la bleu.
