COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle Conditioned - 75 cl, and 33 cl bottles.
Ingredients: Pilsner malt (French barley from Champagne); wheat starch or flour (10% - 15%); dextrose (5%); malt extract (0.1%); hop extract from German Hallertaur (aroma) & American Galena (bittering) hops. Yeast & liquid invert sugar added to the bottled beer.
Chimay Red is noted for its coppery colour which makes it particularly attractive. Topped with a creamy head, it gives off a light, fruity apricot aroma produced by the fermentation. The taste perceived in the mouth is a balance confirming the fruity nuances noticed in the fragrance. Its taste, which imparts a silky sensation to the tongue, is made refreshing by a light touch of bitterness. To the palate, the taster perceives a pleasant astringency which complements the flavour qualities of this beer very harmoniously. This top fermented Trappist beer, refermented in the bottle, is not pasteurised.

I wasn’t incredible impressed with this beer the first time or two I had it. This last time, however was a little different. I had a bottle that I had been aging for about three years. I took it to a beer release with a buddy of mine. Wow, what a difference three years made. It was incredibly smooth and had some real depth of flavor. I think I will pick up a couple more of these to age. I love the Chimay Blue fresh...but after tasting this aged...might have to try aging the Blue also.

A bit cloudy - maybe poured in the yeast....copper colour. Tastes as expected. Browny Belgium. Would drink again but not amazing. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Aroma: alcohol, peach. Appearance: hazy ruby color, nice beige head. Taste: medium bitterness (alcohol), peach, roasted malts. Palate: full body and high carbonation, bitter alcohol finish. Overall: I am strongly disappointed. Only alcohol and nothing more.

750ml bottle from the LCBO. Hazy deep amber pour with a big tan head.Nose is quite fruity with notes of yeast and some spice. Sweet carame and honey l start with some bread and a hint of cloves. A bit of bitterness balnces things in the finish. Full creamy mouth with active carbonation.

Bottle from The Crown (JDW), Berkhampsted on 16 March 2014. Poured a clear, deep ruby, with a very large, fluffy off-white head. Aroma of Belgian yeasts, redcurrent, spice and sweet malts. Initial flavours of berries, bready malt, caramel and candy sugar. Rich mouthfeel with lots of gentle carbonation. Finish is bitter sweet dry grains, toffee, yeast esters and coriander. Ubiquitous, but a classic for a good reason.

Bottle. Dark ruby. Great head on pour. Creamy, rich mouthfeel. Smells of yeast and candi sugar. Tastes of burnt sugar, caramel, bubblegum.

Syrupy copper aroma and interesting diamond like head pattern. Deep red brown in colour. Cloudy for me but probably because shaken in bag. Typical Belgian yeast flavour but with some copper darkness to it. Somewhat soft, good texture.

BR5 Bottled. brown with a huge slowly disappearing head. Some malts and a lot of sweetness. Very smooth as the description says. Has a bit of caramel as well. No alcohol in the palate but a bit too much carbonation. Very pretty beer but there are much better Dubs, especially for the price. Prefer the Blu as per most people.
