COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle Conditioned - 75 cl, and 33 cl bottles.
Ingredients: Pilsner malt (French barley from Champagne); wheat starch or flour (10% - 15%); dextrose (5%); malt extract (0.1%); hop extract from German Hallertaur (aroma) & American Galena (bittering) hops. Yeast & liquid invert sugar added to the bottled beer.
Chimay Red is noted for its coppery colour which makes it particularly attractive. Topped with a creamy head, it gives off a light, fruity apricot aroma produced by the fermentation. The taste perceived in the mouth is a balance confirming the fruity nuances noticed in the fragrance. Its taste, which imparts a silky sensation to the tongue, is made refreshing by a light touch of bitterness. To the palate, the taster perceives a pleasant astringency which complements the flavour qualities of this beer very harmoniously. This top fermented Trappist beer, refermented in the bottle, is not pasteurised.

Bottle. Served at the <a href=http://news.ratebeer.com/Place/illinois/blue- Tree Inn. A happy, hazy beer smell wafts from the Trappist glass after it’s poured. Brown and hazy body with a surface skim of light foam, but no lacing. The smell lightens up once you put your nose in the glass. Taste includes impressions of brown sugar, rum, and a slight prune darkness. Despite the relatively light alcohol for this style, there’s actually a kind of barley win maltiness to it. Works well as a casual summer drunking experience. And Jeezis Peet, I’ve just checked off the Maple Tree’s beer menu: they still have a dozen beers I haven’t rated yet! Hmmm...

Light brown with wery rich yelow cap. Mild sweet aroma. Moderate sweet taste (exctly as I like it!) with caramel sourness notes Reafreshing and easy drinkable.

Bottle in Spain Very bubbly with golden color. Aroma and taste are very Belgian, very double brown Trappist. Quite soft in palate however. A good one I an say!

Draft at Uber. Copper pour, dense creamy eggshell head, great retention and lacing. While I patiently wait for the head to drop off, I get to take a long time with the aroma. Very fruity, almost like tart apples and peach. Cherries, some candi. Taste: bread, caramel, fruit. Rather sweet, bready and slightly toasty. Cardboard. Palate: medium body that feels thin and watery, but I’ve been imperial stouting it up so will give it the benefit of the doubt. Overall: I’m guessing this is one you have to be in the mood for, or you drink again and again and acclimate to it, grow to love it. I could see that in this one. Not sure I’m likely to get to that point, but it’s nice enough.

The wife of Freaky Tiki is a keeper. And this review will tell you why: my fav funk-soul-deep-blues St Louis radio station KDHX (check it out online) had an ad for a Belgium beer & mussels festival that had me jealous. Well lo & behold wouldn’t you know she got a mini-festival going at home (having a 3 week old keeps you off the road) & this often drank but never rated brew was the beer we started with. Pours the colour of my retro modern couch: deep mahogany with a thin cap lounging on top. First thing I notice is a brisk carbonation. Flavour is candied plums, steady spicing & a slightly bitter finish. I like it but I don’t like it as much as the 2nd bottle of the night that’s waiting in the fridge: St Bernardus.

750ml ($15.99) very good beer. taste is lighter than the blue grand reserve. Has good carbonation and flavor is very complex. Worth having if only once. but personally I’ve had better and at a better price.

Deep red pour with a big frothy head that dissipates fairly quickly. Aroma of caramel, fruit, yeast. Taste is dark fruit, malts, yeast. Medium smooth body.
