Cloudy brown-red colour, large off-white head that falls away relatively quickly and leaves little to no lacing. A big aroma of sweetly sharp malts, caramel, multiple fruits like orange and spices. Taste dominated by malt, caramel and dark fruits, as well as a toasty edge. Mouthfeel is a little rough and in some parts watery, which detracts from the drinkability. Medium body with medium-to-high carbonation. Overall a mostly enjoyable beer, but far from a "wow!" beer. Seems a somewhat straight forward abbey dubbel.

On tap at Rockbass Grill in Harrisburg, PA. This is my first Chimay brew, and it was a mostly underwhelming experience. Not much stood out. Guess I'll have to try the Blue next.

medium body, romig, laag co2, afdronk : zoetig
ietwat lichte ondertonen, ik vond de Val-Dieu Brune die ik ervoor had gehad net wat beter !

33cl bottle. Pours dark brown with medium head. taste of fruit and caramel with some bitternes. somewhat watery compared to chimay bleu.

good beer, kind of plain in flavor, but great at everything else. dark cloudy brown color, rootbeer like aroma, and fizzy feeling on the palate. cool!

From 33 cl bottle shared at home. Pours a medium brown with a frothy ecru head. Aroma of malt. Flavors of caramel and toffee. Smooth finish.

Appearance: dark brown beer, nice stable off white head.
Nose: very fruity, some sugar, something like peanut smell? very strange nose, had to describe.
Taste: bitter finish, rather fruity, little wood like, some malts, some dried fruits. But a strange dry out effect in the mouth, almost like putting flour on my tongue...
Though, decent beer altogether!

Bottle. Hazy amber brown color, small foamy off-white head, caramel aroma, ightly sweet caramel-coffee flavor, fizzy with average finish. Very very good beer.

Caramel, nuts, toast, herbs, clove, smoke, woody, fruity apricot aroma, silky sensation, pleasant adstringency, refermented in the bottle and not pasteurised

Bottle - can’t remember where in Brussels. Pours very dark but due to the unneccesarily moody lighting in the bar I couldn’t say exactly. Smooth liquorice and fruit cake. Not as full bodied as the bleue, which I prefer.
