Bottle Conditioned - 75 cl, and 33 cl bottles.
Ingredients: Pilsner malt (French barley from Champagne); wheat starch or flour (10% - 15%); dextrose (5%); malt extract (0.1%); hop extract from German Hallertaur (aroma) & American Galena (bittering) hops. Yeast & liquid invert sugar added to the bottled beer.
Chimay Red is noted for its coppery colour which makes it particularly attractive. Topped with a creamy head, it gives off a light, fruity apricot aroma produced by the fermentation. The taste perceived in the mouth is a balance confirming the fruity nuances noticed in the fragrance. Its taste, which imparts a silky sensation to the tongue, is made refreshing by a light touch of bitterness. To the palate, the taster perceives a pleasant astringency which complements the flavour qualities of this beer very harmoniously. This top fermented Trappist beer, refermented in the bottle, is not pasteurised.

Poured from 330ml bottle into snifter glass. Cloudy brown-red colour, large off-white head that falls away relatively quickly and leaves little to no lacing. A big aroma of sweetly sharp malts, caramel, multiple fruits like orange and spices. Taste dominated by malt, caramel and dark fruits, as well as a toasty edge. Mouthfeel is a little rough and in some parts watery, which detracts from the drinkability. Medium body with medium-to-high carbonation. Overall a mostly enjoyable beer, but far from a "wow!" beer. Seems a somewhat straight forward abbey dubbel.

Bottle from The Crown (JDW), Berkhampsted on 16 March 2014. Poured a clear, deep ruby, with a very large, fluffy off-white head. Aroma of Belgian yeasts, redcurrent, spice and sweet malts. Initial flavours of berries, bready malt, caramel and candy sugar. Rich mouthfeel with lots of gentle carbonation. Finish is bitter sweet dry grains, toffee, yeast esters and coriander. Ubiquitous, but a classic for a good reason.

Syrupy copper aroma and interesting diamond like head pattern. Deep red brown in colour. Cloudy for me but probably because shaken in bag. Typical Belgian yeast flavour but with some copper darkness to it. Somewhat soft, good texture.

BR5 Bottled. brown with a huge slowly disappearing head. Some malts and a lot of sweetness. Very smooth as the description says. Has a bit of caramel as well. No alcohol in the palate but a bit too much carbonation. Very pretty beer but there are much better Dubs, especially for the price. Prefer the Blu as per most people.

D’un brun trouble, son service fait penser au champagne.Belle mousse mais courte. Les arômes me rappelle les noix, la caramel, un peu la mélasse. La levure est bien présent. Bref, belle double qui met les bases au style!

11.20oz bottle from Winslow’s in Greenville, N.C. Dark brown hue, murky clarity with mostly diminishing off-white fizzy head. Lively body particles. Virtually no lacing. Dark fruit aroma (grapes), some malt as it warms. Bitter dark fruit up front with the same finish. Lively carbonation on the tongue. I thought this was pretty tasty.

Pours a clear ruby with a foamy white head. Has a fajntly sweet honey and fruit aroma. Flavor is also fruit and honey, but more dry than sweet, which gives it a nice taste.
