COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle Conditioned - 75 cl, and 33 cl bottles.
Ingredients: Pilsner malt (French barley from Champagne); wheat starch or flour (10% - 15%); dextrose (5%); malt extract (0.1%); hop extract from German Hallertaur (aroma) & American Galena (bittering) hops. Yeast & liquid invert sugar added to the bottled beer.
Chimay Red is noted for its coppery colour which makes it particularly attractive. Topped with a creamy head, it gives off a light, fruity apricot aroma produced by the fermentation. The taste perceived in the mouth is a balance confirming the fruity nuances noticed in the fragrance. Its taste, which imparts a silky sensation to the tongue, is made refreshing by a light touch of bitterness. To the palate, the taster perceives a pleasant astringency which complements the flavour qualities of this beer very harmoniously. This top fermented Trappist beer, refermented in the bottle, is not pasteurised.

Poured from a 11.2 oz. bottle into a Chimay goblet. Appearance: Pours a dark caramel brown with hints of golden amber. Has a 1-2 finger off-white foamy head which dissipates fairly quickly. Minimal lacing. Smell: Nice malty sweetness with hints of spices and dried fruits. Taste: Caramel up front with a small metallic bite. Toasted malt with a light hint spices throughout. Very subdued bittersweet aftertaste. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied with a high amount of carbonation up front. Fairly dry finish. Drinkability: Pretty high drinkability. Would be higher if not for the high amount of carbonation. Overall: This is one of those beers that every beer lover should try. It isn’t my favorite ale, but it is a good representation of the Dubbel style.

330ml bottle. Pours a dark cooper with a tan head. Aroma is fruity and yeast. Taste is yeast at first, then fruity with a medium bitter finish. To be honest, was expecting a bit more.

Bottle. Pours a good looking slighty hazy copper color. Spices, raisins, dried fruit, alcohol, yeast, sweet. Not bad at all, easy to drink.

The last of the three to be tasted since I met them. Dissapointed. I expected more from this beer but was quite tasteless according the Trapist beers standars. The quallity is at sight.

From a cork top bottle. Poured a big head. Aroma reminds me of other belgian brews. Delicious brew. Smoother finish than I thought.
