COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle Conditioned - 75 cl, and 33 cl bottles.
Ingredients: Pilsner malt (French barley from Champagne); wheat starch or flour (10% - 15%); dextrose (5%); malt extract (0.1%); hop extract from German Hallertaur (aroma) & American Galena (bittering) hops. Yeast & liquid invert sugar added to the bottled beer.
Chimay Red is noted for its coppery colour which makes it particularly attractive. Topped with a creamy head, it gives off a light, fruity apricot aroma produced by the fermentation. The taste perceived in the mouth is a balance confirming the fruity nuances noticed in the fragrance. Its taste, which imparts a silky sensation to the tongue, is made refreshing by a light touch of bitterness. To the palate, the taster perceives a pleasant astringency which complements the flavour qualities of this beer very harmoniously. This top fermented Trappist beer, refermented in the bottle, is not pasteurised.

Muddy somewhat light brown, quickly settling head, medium homogenous bubbles. Light fruity aroma, apricot describes it well. Dry, a little bitter. Not very complex. Silky also describes it well. Fresh and fizzy, but smooth. Not very interesting. Purchased in Kihoskh.

a dusky ruby red with a large beige head that recedes to lace. smell is liquorice, hops, alcohol, dried apricot, bitter, nutty taste and very smooth, dry, spicy mouthfeel. definitely even better than i remember it being.

Pour is a cloudy amber color with a fairly large head. Slightly spicy and malty nose. Dark fruity flavors with a deep roasted malt. Fairly complex and well balanced.

nose of misleadingly unchallenging lager malt. a wave of caramel soon follows and the journey begins. flavor is strongly sweet then quickly balanced with tastefully used hops. the tongue sizzles in their presence and belgian spice comes in the aftertaste during an exhalation of bated breath. an eternally drinkable and satisfying beer.

probably the most rated beer that i haven’t rated already. I haven’t really been able to dig the blue, so this might be interesting. red/amber/brownish with a big smooth thick offwhite head. aroma is a subdued dark fruits, caramel, faint toffee. flavor is extremely balanced and complex, comes off as chocolate cake with cinnamon, with cocoa on top, in other words, spicces, chocolate, cocoa, sweet malts, very faint dark fruits. i don’t like chocolate cake with coacoa on top, and am not a fan of cinnamon, so this one gets a low rate. even though it tastes rater bad, it is easy to register that it is a very well crafted beer.

Nice amber red color with creamy white foam. There’s a distinctive taste of caramel in this beer. A nicely balanced alcohol percentage pumps up its taste. Very nice beer.

(330ml bottle) pours a reddish-brown with huge voluminous head, great lacing. A beautiful beer. Nose has cinnamon, bready yeast, light hops, and raisins. Quite complex in the taste too. Sweet raisins and malt, slight hop bitterness to balance it out, spicy yeast, and a great finish. Creamy and velvety too. One of my favorite trappist beers and possibly Chimay’s best in my opinion.
