Commercial Description:
Chimay Blanche (White), with its typical golden colour, its slightly hazy appearance and its fine head is especially characterised by its aroma which results from an agreeable combination of fresh hops and yeast. The beer's flavour, as sensed in the mouth, comes from the smell of hops: above all it is the fruity notes of muscat and raisins that give this beer a particularly attractive aroma. The aroma complements the touch of bitterness. There is no acidity, but an after-bitterness which melts in the mouth. This top fermented Trappist beer, refermented in the bottle, is not pasteurised.
Ingredients: Water, malted barley, wheat starch, sugar, hop extract and yeast. See Protz and John White

Overall Impression: Nice, enjoyable tripel, not the absolute top of its style, but its a great style.

Bottle. Cloudy orange colour. Fenolic, spicy, fruity and sweet but balanced by quite a bit of hops. Also some alcohol noticeble.

From the bottle. Hazy amber coulour. Aroma is very yeasty. Flavour is strong and alcoholic. This is a great tripple complex and deep.

Bottle from the LCBO. Hazy, dark golden brown pour. Smooth with a definitive trappist ale finish. I will buy this again.

On tap at the Ginger Man in NYC. Good Tripel, but with a strong Irish/Scotch whiskey character, almost as if it was aged in pre-used oak. Would be curious to try this in a bottle and see how it compared.

A hazy golden brew with a lot of yeast sediment with a small white head that doesn’t really stick around. Pretty weak aroma of grain/wheat/hay, a little musky. The skirt I’m drinking with says citrus, but I can’t tell. Flavor is similarly weak but there’s the usual belgian yeast spiciness, and some bitterness at the end. Not my favorite trappist, but if you’re looking for a light one this is it.

Bottle. Pured golden with a big white head. Aroma of wheat, orange, yeast, light spice. Taste is similar with some light hop coming through as well. Finish is a little dry and the mouth is very carbonated. Very easy drinking, excellent tripel.
