NDbeerdrinker (164), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA Feb 24, 2009 Pours a cloudy orange-gold with a two finger white head. There is a noticeable amount of sediment floating after the pour. Aroma is malty, spicy, and yeasty. Some fruit in the smell also. Taste is malt, spice, a little orange peel, dark fruit. Very good beer, but not as great as I expected. Strangebrewer (208), Chatham, Ontario, Canada Feb 24, 2009 bottle. Poured cloudy amber with sediment and off-white tight bubbled head. Sharp mouthfeel, very dry and a bit sour. Bitter peppery hop finish that lingers and warms you up a bit. Quite overpouring, a want to drink a different beer to quench my thirst made by this one.
tsetlock (66), Livonia, Michigan, USA Feb 24, 2009 Pale golden color, white head. Aroma of hops and malts, some clove spices and yeast. Flavor is very malty, but nicely balanced by the hoppy bitterness and a slightly yeasty taste. Very smooth palate, soft and creamy mouthfeel with a medium texture. A nice balanced beer. mcd410x (10), Florida, USA Feb 23, 2009 Bottle and on draught. Nice golden amber. Nice amount of fruitiness. Nice and light. Slight punch to finish. Effervescent: The real champagne of beers. Actually, my favorite of the three Chimays. DeputyAndy (60), New Jersey, USA Feb 20, 2009 From bottle. Pours nicely with a light amber colour. Very slight malty aroma with nice lacing. A little carbonated for my taste. Very nice, semi-sweet aftertaste, almost bitter but in a good way. jmw141 (134), Canton, Illinois, USA Feb 19, 2009 Serving: 11.2 oz bottle coded 08-318. Poured very slowly into my authentic Chimay glass.
A: Hazy deep copper. Perfect marsmellow head. This is probably the best head I have ever seen on a beer thus far. Also, it stays thick and creamy the whole time I’m drinking it. Tons of bubbles racing around inside.
S: Spice, fruit, hops, esters, bread/yeast.
T: Sweet malt followed shortly by a firm hop bitterness. Alcohol not evident. Slight fruit, less than the Red.
M: Medium bodied, oily, carbonated well, dryish finish.
D: Just a tad bit less drinkable than the Red. Could be due to more hops or less fruitiness. Although it is still very good. Nebulor (109), , California, USA Feb 18, 2009 A little beerish somewhat chewy malt kind of smell with pine and pine bark aromas.
Hazy knid of darkish apricot color with funneling action and some sediment suspension.
Sweet chewy pale malt, maybe same (Wheat) grain, taste with a hint of broth and grapefruit.
Medium bodied, smooth resinous feel, crisp and soft carbonation, with a dry finish.
Very drinkable, I know the Blue is popular, this might be my favorite of the bunch. kuphish (150), Bloomington, Indiana, USA Feb 16, 2009 Bottle. Poured a large, frothy white head. Lasting. Beautiful lacing. Deep golden color, bordering on orange. Nice haze expected of a bottle conditioned beer with visible, but not excessive yeast clouds. A nice malty aroma - not overpowering. A little bread and some straw/grassy smells. Also a bit musty...perhaps from the yeast. Pleasant, soft carbonation. Nice flavors at the beginning - malty, bready and a little bitterness to balance it out. Some fruity/raisiny flavor. Bitterness is light, but picks up on the finish. A distinct alcohol finish that lingers too long.
