Commercial Description:
Chimay Blanche (White), with its typical golden colour, its slightly hazy appearance and its fine head is especially characterised by its aroma which results from an agreeable combination of fresh hops and yeast. The beer's flavour, as sensed in the mouth, comes from the smell of hops: above all it is the fruity notes of muscat and raisins that give this beer a particularly attractive aroma. The aroma complements the touch of bitterness. There is no acidity, but an after-bitterness which melts in the mouth. This top fermented Trappist beer, refermented in the bottle, is not pasteurised.
Ingredients: Water, malted barley, wheat starch, sugar, hop extract and yeast. See Protz and John White

Hazy golden pour with some lively carbonation and a huge white head. Nice fruity aroma (citrus mostly), some spice and honey also. The flavor does not live up to the aroma. Tastes like watery bread at first, tons of yeast and malt notes, eventually a mild hop/alcohol bitterness shows up to balance things out a little bit, but fails to save the day. There are some decent dark fruit notes in there - I’m getting mostly raisin - but they don’t stand up to the yeasty bread flavor. Mouthfeel is pretty lively, but not really exceptional. I’m not really sure what to think about this beer. The appearance and aroma had me expecting greatness, but this one proved to be a bit of a letdown.

bottle - hazy orange brown beer with a beige head. Fruity yeast aroma. Flavour has a nice spicy bitterness, malty.

On tap at the Back Abbey. Pours a hazy straw color with tall creamy white head. Aroma seems pretty tame. Mostly spicy with some yeast. Flavor is better than the aroma. More bitter than expected, spicy and fruity with apples, oranges and some honeysuckle. Medium bodied with a good deal of carbonation.

My least favorite of the three. It seemed like the flavors in this one were less complex in comparison. On it’s own, it’s a very good beer.

Pours a milky amber color with a fine white head. Rather yeasty, but retaining the creaminess common to Chimay beers. The carbonation is more pronounced that I would have liked, perhaps, but this doesn’t ruin the beer.

Yeast for miles in the nose. Tart orange as well. The appearance is very cloudy with a fluffy white head. Sweet flavors, plums, raisins, spice and a prominent maltiness. The palate burns but finishes with a spicy flourish. About what I expected, but still had some surprises.

On tap at the club on Halloween while I was dressed like a guido. I should have been drinking Heinekens and jager bombs, I know, but f*ck it, I wanted something good. Hazy golden color with a creamy white head and great lacing. Aroma is Belgian yeast, wheat, pale malt, and some spices. Very yeasty taste with some citrus notes, pale malt, wheat, muscat grapes, and mild hop character. Medium palate with soft carbonation that is befitting of the style. Overall one of the best tripels out there.
