AmEricanbrew (1009), Swamp Shreveport, Left Coast, Louisiana, USA Jan 10, 2008 75 cl bottle from the cellar. Cork date was 07/2001.
Pours a cloudy orange yellow hue. Has a 1 finger head which faded in a couple of minutes leaving a smattering of lace. The smell is of spices ; black pepper, lemongrass etc. The beer tastes like it was stored in an oak barrel ; a pretty strong smoked wood, musty, vinous taste with a hint of black pepper, cloves and oranges. Finishes with a tangey, dry hop tone.
A most excellent Belgian pale.Dec 2003
Strykzone (1019), Wood River, Illinois, USA Oct 11, 2008 Orange hue, cloudy with a huge light orange head that lasts forever. Takes patience to wait for it. Aroma is yeast, hop, dark fruits, and clove. Flavor is yeast and orange peel. It offers spices, pepper, hallertau hops. Such a good beer! Jerbson (1), Concord, New Hampshire, USA does not count Oct 9, 2008 This is a great beer. I liked it better than the Chimay blue reserve and I typically like bitter dark beer. I will go as far as to say it is now my favorite. It very foamy so I had to wait to drink but it’s excellent. I can’t put my finger on the flavor they added but its creamy and superb. Not to expensive either. I can’t wait to have another. tedovertu (133), Apple Valley, Minnesota, USA Oct 9, 2008 Clove and Cinnamon aroma. Murky body clarity with medium body. Moderately bitter initial flavor. My least favorite of the Chimay’s. A little hoppy for the style, but not bad. pj1855 (76), Eagan, Minnesota, USA Oct 8, 2008 Pours a murky golden color. Good lacing. Aroma of light spice and bready malts. Intial flavor of spicy bready malts with a light alcohol finish. Not bad but I like the Westmalle triple better. durhambeer (535), Durham, USA Oct 5, 2008 Bottle. Bubbly golden orange pour with white fizzy head. Spicy and sweet. Lots of yeast, some citrus, and a doughiness on the nose as well as some hops. Similar on the palate with some added apricot/peach and honey notes. Always a pleasure.
