Chimay Tripel, with its typical golden colour, its slightly hazy appearance and its fine head is especially characterised by its aroma which results from an agreeable combination of fresh hops and yeast. The beer’s flavour, as sensed in the mouth, comes from the smell of hops: above all it is the fruity notes of muscat and raisins that give this beer a particularly attractive aroma. The aroma complements the touch of bitterness. There is no acidity, but an after-bitterness which melts in the mouth. This top fermented Trappist beer, refermented in the bottle, is not pasteurised.
Ingredients: Water, malted barley, wheat starch, sugar, hop extract and yeast. See Protz (beer-pages.com/protz/features/chimay.htm) and John White (www.whitebeertravels.co.uk/chimay.html)

33cl. BBE 2017. Golden hazy with white head and beautiful lacing. Aroma of yeast and mild hops. Soft and smooth. Very easy drinking at all temperatures. Not my go to beer from Chimay, but this one is really refreshing on a hot day.

On-tap at World of Beer in WPB. Poured into a Chimay goblet. How authentic. Golden straw colored with a big fluffy white head that never really goes away. Golden straw colored with a big fluffy white head that never really goes away. A blast of yeastiness, but much more dominated by the fruit notes. Honey sweetness midrange and a bready finish. Delicious, but lacks the complexity of other tripels. Some tripels have an intense dryness that makes me feel thirsty even while drinking it. This one isn’t so dry, but it’s still present. Light bodied, but that’s what I expect from a tripel. One of my old gateway craft beers that I still enjoy from time to time.

Huge white head, good lacing. Rich fruity, spicy, yeasty aroma, sweet spicy taste balanced by bitterness of hops and noble alcohol. Classic tripel.

Espuma media (2-3 dedos) poco duradera, Turbia de color ambar medio. Aroma ligeramente alcohólico. Compleja. Dulzón inicial, que sigue con especias y regusto a fruta tropical (mango?) y naranja en el paladar, para dejar un final muy seco y amargo que redondea el conjunto. Muy agradable en paladar con indudable cuerpo. Gran triple

Pours a cloudy yellow with white lacing. Smell is woody with a citrus note. Taste is close to the smell with an acidic finish. Not as sweet as most Belgians but still a very nice beer.

Bottle at family party. Coryander, spices, banana, yeast, some hops. I used to like this, but my palate has changed so much to the American styles that I tend to dislike it now.

Aroma: Clearly the coriander. After a while I notice the cara malts and the yeasty esters. Taste: Mostly coriander, caramel and peppery. Chimay beers are not my favourites.

Pours copper color with a little haze and a big tight heAd that lingers leaving a minute amount of lace on glass. Smells of raisins, prunes, dates and spices.Tastes of yeast, spices, caramel, and alcohol. Big body, hot mouthfeel, good carbonation, and a sweet and spicy finish. It is good but not great. I like the red more.

330 ml bottle. Pours a clear mid copper turning cloudy after sediment is disrupted, good initial head but fades to cap. Yeast and spice on the nose with some baked, stewed/concentrated fruit. Stewed fruits follow onto the palate with a lot of warm spice. Definite sour note and some definite bittering/drying on the finish. Pretty high carbonation carries everything through. Very refined triple.
