3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Ernest (5184) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - MAY 14, 2002
UPDATED: APR 8, 2012 Bottle. Head is initially large, frothy, white, mostly lasting. Body is hazy dark yellow, bottle conditioned. Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain), lightly hoppy (flowers), lightly to moderately yeasty (mold, basement), with notes of Juicy Fruit gum, coriander, and pepper/alcohol. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately bitter, unclean. Medium body, syrupy texture, lively carbonation, moderately alcoholic. Somewhat attractive nose, but rather clunky and dirty in the mouth.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Kåstå (1221) - Mol, BELGIUM - MAY 14, 2002
Light brown, foamy beer. There is some liquorice and pepper in this very dry and bitter beer. The aftertaste is very bitter. The alcohol is also too dominant for my taste.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Balthazar (86) - Clinton, Massachusetts, USA - MAY 13, 2002
Great Beer! It seemed to have overtones of orange and maybe a hint of nutmeg. Very good flavor.

UPDATED: MAR 1, 2003 I could really dig this beer. It reminds me of a four 0 cause of the size, so i put it in a bag and enjoyed. Its kinda like what ya drink after a ghetto wedding. Whats with all the names, does this beer think its prince or what? I say it should go with the cinq cents cause it sounds cool and also becuase the blanche thing gives me visions of the golden girls. As far as the beer itself, it was really good, one of the best. It tasted a lil bit weird at first, but very good. Lots of cool flavors in this, but my belgian palate was not what it is now, so i want some more.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 eczematic (1297) - Sydney, AUSTRALIA - MAY 12, 2002
UPDATED: MAR 16, 2004 big, yeasty, phenolic, peppery, harshly bitter, alcoholic, slightly caramelly, estery with sweaty green banana. really rough, nasty highalpha bitterness and phenols ruin this. it tastes like an american IPA with an infection. but i still give it points for lots of flavour.
4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 duff (5483) - St, Margarets, Greater London, ENGLAND - MAY 12, 2002
I really like this beer, and i’d go as far as to say its probably my favoured Chimay, soft floral aroma. Deep orange colour with a pillowy head at first fading to a thin head which sticks all the way down to the bottom. Dry, bitter orange peel flavour aswell as added spice and pepperiness and a medium to full body, smooth aswell with abitter aftertaste. excellent beer, lots of flavour.

Nice white head, almost fizzy. Orange colour. A hoppy, fruity aroma. Strong but very drinkable.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 jonas (4590) - Garching b. München, GERMANY - MAY 7, 2002
UPDATED: NOV 20, 2004 Small bottle
Fruity (apricot) and spicy aroma.
Orange chestnut, hard to avoid yeast clumps, big creamy head.
Fruitbread base, raisins, citric freshness, a bit marzipan.
Relatively light body, somewhat foamy mouthfeel.
Sugary aftertaste.
It is a really nice trippel - fresh and with a light body, but I don’t know, something was missing - mayby it was the small bottle

3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 cranesareflying (50) - Evanston, Illinois, USA - MAY 3, 2002
A huge outpouring of a frothy, white head, which sticks around for the duration, a golden-yellow color, a nice, pronounced aroma, this resembles the Westmalle Tripel, although in my view, not nearly as complex, not as sweet, there’s more of a lasting bitterness here, not as evolving a flavor, but this is a rich, slightly fruity, ultra-strong pale ale. As with the Chimay Bleu, I found a sour dullness in the flavor. The look, the texture, the balance is all there, but the flavor ultimately disappoints.
