Chimay Tripel, with its typical golden colour, its slightly hazy appearance and its fine head is especially characterised by its aroma which results from an agreeable combination of fresh hops and yeast. The beer’s flavour, as sensed in the mouth, comes from the smell of hops: above all it is the fruity notes of muscat and raisins that give this beer a particularly attractive aroma. The aroma complements the touch of bitterness. There is no acidity, but an after-bitterness which melts in the mouth. This top fermented Trappist beer, refermented in the bottle, is not pasteurised.
Ingredients: Water, malted barley, wheat starch, sugar, hop extract and yeast. See Protz (beer-pages.com/protz/features/chimay.htm) and John White (www.whitebeertravels.co.uk/chimay.html)

Pours hazy golden with a big frothy head. The rich aroma contains fruits, caramel, yeast, hops and herbs. It tastes medium fruit-like sweet with a spicy light bitter ending. The aftertaste is long. Full body and creamy texture. Perhaps a bit too bitter for me, but very enjoyable nonetheless.

Sampled from a bottle the beer poured, an opaque coppery orange. The beer had a thick frothy head which, when settled down left a white cap and good lacing. Some sediment was left in the bottle, as this beer is unfiltered. The beer is aromatic and much of what would be expected from a Belgian tripel: fruitiness (tree fruit like apples and apricots and grapes), yeast and bread, spice and alcohol. The flavour follows the profile of the nose: light fruits, sweet malts, citrus notes, Belgian yeasts and with a hint of hoppy bitterness at the end. Complex and masterfully balanced. The beer was fully bodied and crisp, with an almost soda like carbonation. This doesn’t feel like it is 8%, the ABV is well hidden.

Originally rated on 7/1/08. It poured a massive white cap, the body was interesting blend of colors depending on the light, it was yellow, and amber very cloudy. Thick lace left on my glass, flavor was a very subtle mix of fruit and spices, with malty overtones.Slight scent and flavor of alcohol but its well hidden and smooth.

Keurige Tripel.

Aroma of traditional trappist beer. Pours amber with creamy head. Cream on the palate and soft mouth feel. Caramel and malt flavours with hints of grassiness. Not overpowering trappist funkiness. Consistent finish retains the flavour from the middle.

Bottle. Golden amber color, hazy liquid with a lot of sedimentation. Higher carbonation. Very nice banana smell. Aroma of banana, oak, some unidentified sweet fruit in the background. Taste is medium bitter, light sweet and a bit sour. Excellent.

Smell: buckwheat honey, hops, peach, delicate aroma of banana, tropical fruits, a little bit of spicy. Taste: dominated by bitterness ...bitterness becomes sweetness, herbs & cloves, yeast, some of alcohol, sour sweet; finish is intense of bread. Pleasantly warming. Color: amber - honey with creamy peach head.

Not my favourite tripel but the authentic ones rarely disappoint. Golden colour with plenty of white head. Oily body. Nose has sweet toffee malt, syrup and pear. Flavour brings dried fruit but retains a slightly harsh edge.
