COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Chimay Tripel, with its typical golden colour, its slightly hazy appearance and its fine head is especially characterised by its aroma which results from an agreeable combination of fresh hops and yeast. The beerís flavour, as sensed in the mouth, comes from the smell of hops: above all it is the fruity notes of muscat and raisins that give this beer a particularly attractive aroma. The aroma complements the touch of bitterness. There is no acidity, but an after-bitterness which melts in the mouth. This top fermented Trappist beer, refermented in the bottle, is not pasteurised.
Ingredients: Water, malted barley, wheat starch, sugar, hop extract and yeast. See Protz (beer-pages.com/protz/features/chimay.htm) and John White (www.whitebeertravels.co.uk/chimay.html)

A near-iconic beer that I've waited too long to try: the quintessential "tripel". Pours a good-looking hazy honey colour with a respectable white head that lingers and laces. Aroma of pure "Belgian yeast", nicely rounded with caramelized tones and subtle cider spices. The taste is delightfully dry, with the bitter finish nicely complimenting the 8.3% ABV alcohol warmth. It is well balanced and transitions to and from a sweetness with depth. Elements of ripened stone fruit support the fundamental yeast flavours. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle, 330ml. A clear amber beer with a huge frothy head and lot of gas. Aroma is of Belgian yeast, citrics, alcohol and green apples. Taste is bitter with a dry Belgian character. Medium bodied with some carbonation and astringency. Kind of hoppy afertaste with a yeast finish that is slightly alcoholic.

Bottle, 33cl. Clear golden/amber with a creamy offwhite head. Aromas of citrus, fruity hops, cereal, Belgian yeast, alcohol. Medium bodied with moderate to fizzy carbonation. Dry and oily, with a deep hoppy bitterness and astringency, and a controlled sweetness for a tripel. Very pleasant farmhouse character and amazingly drinkable. Excellent, even slightly unorthodox tripel.

Massive longlasting fluffy white head, nice lacing, sits on top of a hazy light gold coloured beer. The ice cream cone effect. Spicy yeast, candy sweet malt, fig, fruity aroma. Matching flavours but this bottle has a lasting metallic note that doesnít seem like it should be in the beer. Iím guessing this bottle hasnít been stored well. Med-high carbonation, medium mouthfeel, dry finish with a lingering bitterness. Very nice beer but docked points because of the metallic note (will have to re-rate).

On tap, Beergeek Praha: nice medium foam, good cling to glass, dissipated in a few minutes. A bit bitter, as I recall I prefer the overall balance of Chimay Rood (red) a bit more. My research of Belgian beers needs further refinement.... and with any luck shall continue apace. A few more sips reveal a delicate flavor unfound in Czech beers: an apples to oranges comparison and thus close to meaningless. The big downside to experiencing more Belgian beers is my increasing reluctance to drink the local brews. Ach jo! (Kdyě mluvite českż, rozumite)

Draught at SBWF 2015. Lasting white head. Clear solid golden color. Nobel taste to give a very nice trippel with a fine carbonation.

Nice refreshing fruity aftertaste. Strong beer without sweetness. Golden color, thick head. This from tap at Delirium Cafe Brussels.

Pours hazy blonde with a decent white head. Nose is lemon tardiness with a little hops and bread. Flavor is a little acidic and strongly favors citrus. Good but not as good as some of its other abbey peers.

Amber with rocky white head. Raisins, cognac, ripe pear, dark chocolate and caramel. High carbonation, sweet, thick, spicy, round, floral and dry finish. Overall: Enjoyable.

So underestimated this, and it was pretty good. The aroma is very good. Lots of Belgian yeastís fruity character and some spiciness, and malt. High carb, medium-light bodied. Very dry and drinkable, but some booze too.
