Carefully selected roasted and caramel malts, combined with beech wood smoked malt, give this Porter a strong and unique character. Bottled unfiltered and unpasteurised in very limited quantity. (A single batch for 2013.)

Bottle. Nice brown head, but didn’t last too much. Strong (greek!) coffee and smoke aroma. Same at the powerful taste. Like the long lasting bitter finish.

Bottle thanks to rouhlas! Pours clear black, small tan head, dissipates to a ring with decent lacing. Aroma is quite roasty with a lot of coffee notes, some burned notes as well. Flavor is light plus sweet, light bitter, burned coffee, deep deep roasted malts, some smokiness, almost meaty in character. Medium body, fairly high carbonation. Burned aftertaste.

A well crafted beer, and something really special for the Greek market, whose lack of a decent smoked beer is kinda prominent. The combination of smoked and roasted malts gives a very tasty and interesting result, one that does not betray loyal beer geeks, but can also be appealing to people less familiar with excessive beer styles. One can expect great things from the Chios Microbrewery, and this beer is proof.

Strong coffee aroma and taste. Lasting aftertaste. The fact it’s unfiltered and unpasteurized makes it very vivid. The 6.2% too. One of the best craft beers to come out of Greece.

330 ml bottle. BB 02/04/2015. At The Local Pub, Athens, Greece. Black colour with a tiny red hue and big tan head. Hops, roasted malt, mild bitterness, mild alcohol boost and some marmalade sweetness in the aroma. Very promising. The flavour is roasted malt, dryness, hickory wood, some sweetness, some alcohol warmth and chocolate. Rich and robust (as the name implies) and very tasty. Best Greek brew so far for me. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
