22oz bottle 12/21/11 (Jack’s Mountain Home)-51° in Trappist Glass-Pours a dark ruby red with a small off white head. Aroma of yeast , caramel, malt, and earthy notes. Taste of yeast, malt, sweetness, bready, and slight alcohol. This full bodied brew is not too shabby. I was expecting worse.

Bottled@SBWF2011. Hazy amber colour, small head. Aroma is sweet malts, some earth, mild fruityness as well as some slight wooden notes. Flavour is rather hoppy with sweet malts and some wooden notes. Semidry palate. Balanced, but a bit sweet. Would do for a sipping session beer though.

Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured dark brown color with an average light brown frothy head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Good toasted malt and fruity aroma. Medium to full body with thick texture and flat carbonation. Heavy sweet flavor with a heavy sweet finish of moderation duration. Good sweet brew.

Pours a murky reddish brown with a head that fades within seconds. Nose is heavy raisins, phenols, esters. Flavor is similar. Pretty good, a little watery in the flavor. Dubbels are not really my thing anymore and my rating may reflect that as well.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Thanks to a generous trader for sending this one out my way a few months back. Served in a Mikasa goblet.
Pours a rusty copper with a bit of a reddish hue. Fizzy two-finger head forms off of a hard pour, though that quickly recedes into a thin cap without any real lacing.
The nose brings a bit of caramel and dark fruit. Some bread crust there as well. Faint pepper and phenolic. The dark fruit character is fairly mild, though I’d say it is the most dominant. The flavor adds a bit of sweetness and a bit more pepper. Dark fruits throughout. Medium body with fair carbonation. Light alcohol presence. Fairly dry in the finish as well after a semi-sweet palate. Pretty decent, but not something I’d seek out again.
