COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Biere de Garde is a traditional artisanal farmehouse ale from the northern region of France. The name literally translates to beer which has been kept or lagered, typically brewed in the spring and Guarded for warm weather consumption. Our version is malt focused; bottle conditioned and in the Amber style. Please enjoy Brewmasters Signature Series beer #1.

I just noticed that this is a spring seasonal, so maybe I’m drinking this one a little too late. Nose is surprisingly malty. Some spice. Not heavily malty, but it just stuck out on the aroma. Malt dominates the flavor profile also. Again, it’s not heavy. The weight of the beer is lighter than I originally expected. The fruit comes out to play a bit. There’s notes of fruit rind and skins aplenty. In general, the beer was a bit flat in terms of flavor. Simple. Not much here. Wish I had this fresh.

A - Pours up a clear amber. I finger off white head that sinks into a razor thin island. S - Over ripened pears, sour apple, cider, toffee, spicy Belgian yeast. T - Sour/tart fruit-apples, a moderate spiciness, Belgian yeast, a mild tart cider shows up more and more as it rests. This beer is strange. The longer it sets the worse it gets. Even with different temperatures. It’s great right off the pour. Weird. Serving type: bottle 08-24-2010

Light copper, medium head, and high lacing. Some corny aroma. Highly carbed with a sour green apple flavor, bitter aftertaste. Dry winy flavor. This tastes a lot like that Duchess sour ale. Not as bad as it could be.

Thanks to a generous trader for sending this my way. Served in a wine glass with some rustic French-inspired soup courtesy of Jared. Pours a very light copper color. It initially has a white head, but can’t hold it at all. There is very, very little lacing. Even a goo, heavy swirl won’t bring the head back. The nose has some subtle light malt and a bit of faint earthiness. There is a small quantity of dry caramel in there as well. The taste has some light earth and slight hop dryness along with some bread. Pretty basic, but okay. Light body with moderate carbonation. Drinks fairly well; this was enjoyable, though not terribly memorable. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 03-09-2011

Much better than my first experience with this brewer (Belgian Quad) but not by much. Pours a murky brown with a soda pop head, foamy then gone. The aroma was some fruit and a bit of caramel. No funk or sourness in the nose or taste. Taste was soda sweet with the same carbonation. This will be my last from this brewer.

750mL thanks to MrLo. Pours a hazy strawberry gold. Large, yellow head subsides quickly with no lace. Nose is plasticy phenols with soap and air freshener. Slightly more red fruits but still not very appetizing. Taste is oddly minty, watery, very strange. Detergent water, tannic red apple skins. Lots of weird going on here. Thin palate with heavy detergent. Not a fan.
