Originally reviewed: 3/26/12. Received this bottle in a trade about a year ago. Thanks to the trader! Opened and split with some friends at a recent tasting. The cork pulled with an audible pop-and-hiss, thankfully. Pours a tawny amber with a small sheet of lace atop. The nose is really fruit-forward, with hints of cherry, strawberry, and oak. Mild ethanol burn in the nostrils. The body has held up well. Slightly slick feel, but drinks moderate-to-heavy. A good late-night sipper for sure. Sweet candy like flavors at the onset, and a surprising tartness. I saw that there may have been some infection issues. I’m not sure if I would call this one full-blown infected, but it definitely has some unique character to it. The cherry-flavor comes out with a bang, and finishes tart. Some mild dryness on the backend from the oak. I’ve never had an oak-aged Quad, so I’m not sure what to expect, but this was interesting. More tart than I expected, and lacked in its residual sweetness that I expect from a Quad. Glad I had the chance though.

bottle, thanks to ericandersnavy, orange in color with a fruity aroma, flavor is light for a quad, mainly cherries with a sweet malty body

25.4 oz bottle. Cloudy brown with a creamy head. Nose is candi, raisin and vanilla. Medium body, soft buzzy carb with a dry woody finish. Taste is caramel, briefly, then stale bubblegum, red wine and tobacco. Sort of a miss, but okay.

(750ml bottle, courtesy of ericandersnavy) Pours a cloudy amber-brown body with moderate tan head. Aroma of raisins, wood, vinous, plum, melon, apple, brown sugar, and light oxidation. Flavor of green apple, plum, caramel, toffee, light butterscotch, and subtle butter.

Oh my. PLEASE don’t sleep on this one. It pours a murky and rich amber brown. The head is malty-tan and sticky. After just a bit of warmth, I smell an almost floral fruit aroma, not quite cherry, not quite... peach. In tasting I am pleasantly taken by sourness, NOT intense, but as opposed to sweetness. Subtle toasty bitterness rounds out the flavor along with some nice syrup and pretty mellow alcohol FLAVOR. It’s a hearty, tasty belgian for sure.

[Bottle] Numbered bottle 266 of 1080. Pours a clear dark brown color with a small beige colored head. Nose is of caramel malts, cinnamon, dark pit fruits and light amounts of alcohol. The taste is fruity, with lots of esters, green apple, cider, spices, light alcohol, hints of vanilla and bourbon. Candy apples, mild chlorine, and sour Belgian yeast notes in the finish. The mouthfeel is average and carbontion is lively. The oak imparted much more color than flavor to this beer. Unfortunately, this beer tasted quite ’green’ with noticeable levels of acetaldehyde. I would highly recommend aging this beer a while before consuming.
