4.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Smoky aroma has a strong woody hoppy component, rather like dry hay, and hints of molasses and licorice. It pours a deep sable with a fine-bubbled tan head that leaves good lacing. Smoky flavor has woody hops, molasses, semi-sweet chocolate, licorice and coffee notes of varying strength. Firm, smooth body has a good ragged fizz. Very enjoyable, will definitely take the edge off the winter chill!

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pint on tap. Opaque with a nice covering of foam. Nose is hoppy - green herb, citrus and resin - supported by some dark chocolate and a touch of coffee. Taste is the same. Medium-heavy body has smooth, medium carbonation and finishes dry with acidic roast and resinous hop. Interesting brew that almost has enough hop to be a heavier-bodied black IPA.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Ar: Dark caramel, bittersweet chocolate, some earthy hops.
Ap: Black, some brown highlights on the edges - small light tan head with moderate-poor retention, leaves a wisp of foam.
T: Bittersweet cocoa, with some mossy and earthy hops - ashy, burnt - fairly clean yeast profile - medium-high bitterness, some clean alcohol.
P: Medium body with medium-high carbonation - finish is dry.
O: Pretty good stout, robust roast flavor and solid bitterness - tastes more like an export stout or a scaled up Irish stout than an imperial stout, though.

Tap at Tapwerks in OKC, OK-january 2013-pours pitch black with a roasty tan head with good retention. nose is woody, roasty lots of black malt here-lite dark chocolate. very nice! flavors exhibit the wood and roast mostly, somewhat one-dimensional however, it clean and well put together. the wood tones here are nice toasted oak. long roasty finish with lingering oak notes. very nice simple impy stout here. I would like to sample this again on my next time through OK.
