goldtwins (4320) - Nesconset, New York, USA - AUG 26, 2005
Bottle stated that this was still good until end of 2024. Poured a hazy yellow with an orange tint and medium sized quickly dissolving head. Malty flavor with light citrus and maybe an odd spice (meaning I can’t put my finger on it). A touch of paper underneath. Beer started sweet and closes lightly acidic and dry. I was worried about the beer since I don’t know the age and it is only 4.5%.

Rastacouere (6166) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - AUG 4, 2005
A great find by Olivier/Clark. Old 750mL. Gorgeous artistic bottle that probably had a few years on it, but seem to have held out quite well besides the oxidation beginning. Light copper hue, mostly lasting off-white head. Pleasant honey-ish maltiness is fairly airy, sweet and nutty in the nose while the remaining hop character can’t hide the once great floral array it must have produced. Accompanying fruitiness (juicy pear, lemon, mango, melon)must have been pretty intense not so long ago. Carbonation is still very intense, lively and fitting. Highly bready yeasty/rye combination works very well in mouth, but it thins rapidly toward the finish, letting oxidized edges come through. It remains very enjoyable despite its advanced age and it was one of those excellent summer moments to savor it under a tricky sunset.

UPDATED: AUG 3, 2005 Quelle belle bouteille sérigraphié. Bouteille à consommer de préférence avant la fin 2005. Couleur ambrée, faible mousse blanche concassée adhérant partiellement au verre. Semble toujours en bon état à en juger par les arômes qui ne témoignent pas des quelques années d’age du liquide. Fruité et épicé, style cumin, en arôme. En bouche, flaveurs légèrement cartonnées et oxydées témoignent finalement de l’âge de cet échantillon. Le fruité et la verdure des houblons est aussi moins présent comparativement à une version fraîche. Le seigle apporte enfin une touche épicée très intéressante et se mélange très bien au reste des flaveurs. Un réchauffant passage ensoleillé en provenance du passé. Courtesy of Pailhead. Dirty orange with big white head. Lots of floaties from sediment. Aroma a little sour with lots of yeast. Flavor very yeast almost farmhouse in a way, very dry spicy flavor present near finish. Probably a little old, but decent nonetheless.

(Bottle 75 cl) A winter beer?? No this is a "zomerbier" a summer beer as the back label states. Hazy, orange beer with a creamy head. Very fresh, scented nose. Light body and incredibly dry, almost like an ice beer! Only a slight bitterness in the finish. A very unusual Chouffe, but a great quencher. Brewed with barley, wheat and rye. 050599

75 cL bottle, date unknown. This is number 500 and a rare find at that. Plenty of dust had accumulated on the bottle, but that did not dissuade me from purchasing. Pours a cloudy amber with orange hints and a huge off-white rocky head, that does not die easily. Great foamy and sticky lacing throughout. Oak and eathy yeast aroma with a light fruit nose. Sour and yet sweet yeasty flavor, some oak/must with a pleasant berry undertone. Hint of spicy yeast and malt combined near the end. Refreshing with lively carbonation and a dry light to medium bodied palate.

Bottle from Pailhead. Nice light brown colored beer with haze and chunky floaties. Nice rocky white head which leaves good lacing. Nice light aroma of malt, spices and yeast. Light bodied, well carbonated. Somewhat spicey in flavor with yeast stuff going on in the background. Refreshing and light beer with discrete flavors and aroma.

Pailhead (6278) - Plymouth, Michigan, USA - JUN 25, 2005
Bottle: Aroma is very fruity and yeasty. Very light tartness. Pours a cloudy orange with a small white head. Light caramel up front with a moderate sourness and light acidity in the finish. Light yeastiness hides in the background as it warms. Caramel increase too as it warms and a toffee presence becomes noticeable.

ClarkVV (5239) - Allston, Massachusetts, USA - MAY 16, 2005
750mL bottle, date unknown. If this thing is ridiculously old, you wouldn’t know it from the pour. Mountains of thick, foamy, off-white head pile up in the glass, and it’s a while before it recedes enough to take a drink. Unfiltered and very hazy, it appears a copper-gold, with some deep orange tinges. Plenty of lacing as well, and the bubbles are tight and agressive. Aroma shows the malted wheat foremost, with hints of vanilla, some light yellow fruits, spicy rye notes and just tons of thick yeast. Flavor begins very light, more of a smooth, creamy wheat and freshly baked baguette flavor. Some nutty/cardboardiness from the age, though I didnt realize this was retired, at the time, so I was rather dumbfounded at finding an oxidized palate. Watery it is, but still maintains some good wheat and rye character, with notes of lemon-flavored sponge cake and mashed vanilla beans. Funky yeast flavors abound on the finish, though it has to fight off the large amount of oxidative dryness. I’m impressed that this little beer is still drinkable.

Cornfield (5570) - Oak Forest, Illinois, USA - MAY 8, 2005
UPDATED: NOV 13, 2006 Pours a dirty amber color with a foamy head that lingers only briefly. The aroma is dusty and fruity, grapes and plums, with a bit of mildly sweet malts. The flavor is grassy and has some citrus flavorings, along with mayhaps a dash of honey. It’s got a dry, sour finish. I’m not sure what they were after here, but it’s an interesting drink.
