3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 rauchbier (3205) - Isle Of Beer, Lincolnshire, ENGLAND - MAY 25, 2002
750 ml Bottle. Figgy fruit nose and a massive everlasting head on a deep copper red body. Lots of estery alcohol and fruit in the mouth backed with wood & pepper. Soft sweet finish with hints of yest and dough. Since they stopped using corks the flavour seems to have lost some complexity but it is still a good beer.

The bottle label tells of a legend from days of yore: a gnome was about to perish over a waterfall when, out of nowhere, a white mountain goat flew through the air, rescuing the knome with a rope seconds before certain death. In fact, the bottle’s label graphics depict this epic moment for all to see. Fascinating as that tale is, the beer is another story. Cloudy brown, this tastes more like a belgian style ale than a bock. Heavy scotch-ale-like malts. If it would have improved the beer any, I’d rather have seen the gnome meet his maker.

Copper brown with some faint haze. Persistent creamy head and lace. Nose is fairly malty, yeasty and posesses a touch of chocolate and hops. Very soft and smooth. Sweet flavor with a touch of what seems like prune? Nice yeast bite. Very mellow. One to kick back with.

UPDATED: JUL 3, 2003 Cloudy dark amber color. Nice malt aroma and body, with some liquorice; really harmonious, smoother flavor than Mc Chouffe, and a nice, light aftertaste of Fernet Branca.

A very good bockbeer. And from Achouffe that says a lot!
4.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 muzzlehatch (4425) - Burlington, Vermont, USA - SEP 23, 2001
Only letdown to this great beer is in the aroma, which is nice, yeasty and a bit fruity but very faint. A superb-looking dark amber/brown body topped with very creamy, thick foam leads to a wondrous, explosively rich flavor that, as VENOM suggests, seems as much Belgian strong as Bock. Palate is very smooth but lingers nicely. Gorgeous!
