Really nice deep amber coloured body with ruby highlights when held up to the light, and a thick dense three centimetre tall tan head with microbubbles - perfect! Aroma of oak, vanilla, nuts, pit fruit, caramel, malt and a old smoky character - neat. Medium-bodied; Sweet malty character at first with pit fruits, vanilla, cherries and toffee tucked in. Aftertaste fades to nuts, dirt, hay, mild oak and a touch of tannins. Overall, a good beer with nice complex characteristics, but the age of this one really shows through and makes it super mild. I sampled this 75 cL bottle, aged at least 5 years, purchased at a small beer shop in Rochester, New York in 2004 sampled at home in Washington on 31-January-2010.

Bottle. A malty smell, light alcoholic. The head is medium large, creamy and light brown with a short duration. The body is dark red. The taste is strong malty, light bitter finish. The body is creamy, medium string and with a soft carbonation.

Pours amber with a small head that’s quickly gone. Aroma of hops and a hint of raspberry. Flavor is watery, hoppy, slightly sweet and a bit sour. Well carbonated, long bitter finish. Somehow I expected more of this.

Not too impressed with this one. Quite light and watery. Had better years of this one, the nice cherry flavor is still there, but there’s a sour, almost red ale hint to it.
