bierkoning (5989), La Tropica, Netherlands Mar 9, 2005 2001 bottle. Pours a firm head. Apple and cinnamon aroma and flavor. Just a bit of raisin. Rather thin. Bitter aftertaste with blackcurrant and just a touch of roasted malt. Still a lively beer, but I think this one is somewhat over the hill. Lubiere (4463), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Mar 6, 2005 Hazy brown ale with a thick light moka head and floaties. Sweet malt, coriander, candy sugar, orange peels and allspice in aroma, with fruity peach notes. Sweet but restrained, very gentle and flowing (toute en douceur). Light malts and spices. Nice hops and spices in finsih. Bottle dated best before end of 2002! And it is good! Merci les boyz! beerbuzzmontreal (2909), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Jan 3, 2005 Muddy dark amber color with a thin head. Complex aroma of malt, spices, caramel, sugar or something sweet, alcohol and fruit. Complex flavor of malt, fruit, spices and something sweet and spicy maybe peppermint. Medium body, smooth, confortable texture, lively carbonation. Amazing stuff, too bad they don’t brew it anymore. tiggmtl (4307), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Jan 3, 2005 Oranges, peaches, cloves, pepper, allspice, coriander, peppermint, light alcohol, icing sugar sweetness intermingled with a honey-like muskiness in the complex, malty and attractive, distinctly spicy aroma. Opaque copper-brown with a finger of dense off-white head that lasts throughout and laces fairly well. Spiciness features in the flavour with a sugary sweetness and tangerine fruitiness. Medium-light body and very soft carbonation that just lightly engages the tongue. Bottle (best before end 2002) enjoyed with beerbuzzmontreal, lubiere, MartinT and Rastacouere. Rastacouere (5551), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Jan 3, 2005 Dark beautiful cloudy brownish copper strewn with yeast particles and feeding a big foamy beige head that recedes to a thick stable cover. Delicious malty aroma, desserty sweet in its spice/fruit blend. A french brioche sweetish yeast makes for the most cake reminiscent flavors. Peach soap like with lemony tart profile. Tastes like a spiced pie crust though quite bockish at that. Surprisingly light palate deploys an airy texture which initially doesn’t bite, but foams up on the way home. I assume it lost some palate over the years as it had those thinning finish characteristics. MartinT (5030), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Jan 3, 2005 Best before end 2002:
The Lure: Diligent minty and sweet spices with intelligent brown sugar and candied figs. Peaches ground the malty and spicy sweetness while propelling them to stardom.
The Festivities: Farm-bred dusty oranges still wearing the earth they rose from. A complex, herbal and sweet spiciness resides within the big-bubbled effervescence.
Transcendence: What a marvelous greenhouse there is at the back of this ruddy dwelling. heemer77 (4294), Savannah, Missouri, USA Oct 18, 2004 750ml bottle. Poured with a huge and long lasting frothy, light brown head. the body is a very dark mohogany that is too cloudy to see through. The aroma that I initially noticed was fresh grapes. It also has notes of butter, peaches and herbs. The rich mouthfeel is absolutely exploding with fruity tastes. It has some apple, raisin and even some carrots. The taste also has spices like ginger, thyme and other herbs. This is a very unique beer that makes me enjoy the fall theme. It is a little too sweet and thin in it’s mouthfeel. For a bock it is fruity and less malty than I would have expected. Otherwise this is a very friendly drink that I would not hesitate to suggest to anyone looking for something different. Also, you should read the entertaining story on the back of the bottle. mdi (573), Nebraska, USA Oct 3, 2004 75cl bottle BB end 2004 Dark mahogony, tan frothy head that dies and leaves little lace, slight protein in suspension. Sweet malt, earthy, some spicy thyme in the nose. Big heavily spiced flavor, bitter with a lingering sweet aged beer maltiness. Aroma opens up more as it breathes and the thyme is more promounced with some slight suggestions of orange. Fun, unique beer, but a little thin.
