3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
21st Oct 2012: Cafe De Grendelpoort in Valkenburg, on-tap, along with a host of others in a ’Bok Fest’.
Pours a dark brown colour which isn’t mirky but it isn’t clear either. On top a thin layer of white foam.
The aroma was of over roasted malty molasses and yeastiness.
The yeast and sweetness from the molasses carried on into the taste nicely. There was also a distinct liquorice finish to this brew, so much so I had to have another to make sure!
Very pleasant and tasty, body strength good and well carbonated.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Notes from early 90s. Bottle. Color: brown, not too dark (for a bock). Aroma’s: dark malts, caramel, sweet. Flavor is moderate sweet. Light to medium bodied. Light bitter flavor. Had this many times over the years, and it’s never been Chouffe’s best beer, or a very good bock for that matter. Decent enough though.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
(Draught at Kafé Belgie, Utrecht, 26 Feb 2015) Dark brown colour with hints of ruby. Frothy, off-white head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of roasted malt, black rye bread and black coffee. Malty, roasted taste with caramel, black rye bread, coffee and a balanced bitterness in the finish. Medium body, with a touch of sweetness. Tasty and well balanced. Quite nice.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Met de familie een fles gedeeld. Heerlijke kruidige caramel smaak, schuimkraag is vlug weg. Licht tintelend in de mond. Typisch bokbier.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Rating based on old notes relating to the original Achouffe version, from a 75 cl bottle; has been in existence since 1991. Was a straightforward and somewhat simple but very decent and balanced brown ale - intended as a Bock but in fact just another Belgian dubbel, if you ask me - with a malty, caramelly, yeasty flavour with some dried fruits and dryish, lightly toasted finish with lingering sweetness.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
Ambrée, presque brune. Assez équilibrée, trop probablement, c’est difficile de trouver du caractère, quelque chose qui s’en dégage. Agréable cela dit.

3.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle 33cl. Clear deep amber brown, small frothy beige head, recedes after a while to a lasting creamy layer, good lacing; aroma sweet malty, roasted, dark fruits, brown sugar, caramel; taste moderate sweet and bitter, roasty; medium body, oily to watery texture, average carbonation, finish dry bittersweet, spicy notes; overall too thin and watery, I expected more from d’Achouffe.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Zwart bier met schuim. Smaak is licht bitter met sporen van chokolade en caramel. Helaas wat waterig.
