COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A unique marriage between the English tradition of IPAs, the new American revolution of Imperial IPAs and the classic Belgian way of brewing. Houblon Chouffe, although very much hopped as it is, showcases the unique balance between a very strong IPA and a very special Belgian Tripel exclusively created for this ale (Big malty body, distinct dryness, expressive estery fruitiness). - IBU: 59, Original Gravity: 1092

wow, immense lasting head that leaves skeletal plateaus of sticky lace after each sip like a time-worn lakeside rock formation. slight haze in the dark-straw-colored liquid from a bit of sediment at the bottle of the 750 mL bottle. despite a strong bitter hops presence, no particular aspect dominates the aroma - earthy yeast and fruity apply esters contrast the malt and hops and alcohol , and they reside in perfect harmony. some peppery spices tingle the tongue that weren’t there in the aroma but find the forefront of the palate. a big body (9% abv is a lot of malt!) dries up in a poof of hops and more yeasty esters. a few more flavors linger in its dryness: honey, citrus, tea, apple & banana.... worth far more than the $8 it cost - exquisite.

Tap at Monk’s cafe: Very cloudy, very pale yellow color, with medium sized rocky white head. Aroma has fair amount of herbal and slightly citrusy hops, subtle honey and lemon character. Flavor is pretty hoppy throughout with a bit of honey, orange, corriander, and black pepper. Finish is mild to moderately bitter,. probably the most bitter belgain style brew I’ve had, but still pretty restrained compared to west-coast IPA’s. Has a bit of residual sweetness.

UPDATED: JAN 14, 2008 (Draught, Frisco Burrito) Pours a cloudy golden body with a medium-sized white head. Aroma of florals, mustiness, orange, and herbs. Flavor of banana, florals hops, grass, and herbs with a dry finish. QUite complex and interesting.

UPDATED: DEC 21, 2007 Pours a hazy yellow with a huge head. Thickest head I have seen I think. Heavy carbonation. Aroma is floral, spicy, yeasty and sweet. Taste is slight banana, citrus, and spiciness. Different.

Poured slowly into a Chouffe glass. Slightly hazy pale yellow with a monster head and tons of lacing. Think shaving cream. Looks great but can be a bit annoying. Flavor and aroma are yeasty, citrus, hoppy, floral and hints of spice. Interesting brew tho I was expecting a tad more hop bite. Still a pretty nice one to be sure. BTW,this one will make ya belch.

Bottle: Aroma is very floral with a light citrus presence and moderate spice. Pours a cloudy gold with a huge white head with excellent retention and lacing. Flavor is floral with a moderate citrus presence and light spice. Finishes with a well balanced citrus hoppiness. I would never have guessed this to be 9% as the alcohol is well hidden. Comes across like a combination of a Belgian Wit and an IPA. Very nice.

This was poured from a 750 bottle and was golden with a small white head. The taste was ok for me but a tad too sweet.

Thanks for sharing pail head. First off this beer poured with the most fluffy head that I have ever seen nice cloudy gold appearance and the head is still there ... Nice belgian like yeast aroma backed up by the pleasent smell of hops. Mouthfeel was just a tad over light flavor was like a blonde meets an IPA. Nice hop flavor with a belgian wit like taste..

UPDATED: JAN 26, 2007 Bottled. Pours yellow in color with a slight haze. Egg white like white head. Aromas of yeast, banana, malt, and butter. There is a slight skunky aroma. Malty and hot with a mouth numbing dryness. Excessively bitter. Candi-like sweetness is in there, as is some orange flavors. The beer becomes better as it warms since the skunkiness seems to dissipate. Re-Rate- Three hours after opening the bottle this beer has really come around. The aroma is now full of citrus and yeast and the flavor has mellowed a bit revealing a malty, Belgian flavored IPA. Plenty of orange hop notes, big bitterness and a substantial malt backbone. The last pour of this bottle still yielded a four inch head! Draft- This is the way to drink this beer! Lightly flavored belgian maltiness and dry with big hop bitterness and aroma. Very crisp. A great beer

750ml. bottle. Hazy golden color with a humongous rocky white head that left sticky lacing all over the glass. Nice hoppy, yeasty aroma with some citrus, hay and malt. Flavor is mildly sweet malts, lots of yeast, wet hay and a nice citrus hop finish. I liked Urthel Hop-It and I think I like this one a little more. The hop presence is much more pronounced.
