944play (64), Santa Rosa, California, USA Jan 24, 2009 750 in weizen glass. Fully chilled bottle foamed over gently upon opening. Cloudy pale with immense, pillowy, lasting head. Easily the most chunky, turbid commercial, *or homebrewed*, beer I’ve come across with lots of floaty bits. Grass, bubblegum, pepper, and grape nose. Flavor is of a nicely balanced tripel with some more resin on the finish, which plays off the sweetness well. This is a great beer, but definitely not for the easily off-put. BeerHawk (1175), Huntsville, Alabama, USA Jan 19, 2009 Bottle. Poured a hazy pale with a tall frothy head that had some lasting and thick lace. Nice floral and citrus aromas with a malt backing. The flavor was much like iced tea; some spices, caramel, and a light fruit and hop background. Medium body and dry, with a light bitter aftertaste. WertMaker (9), Florence, Oregon, USA does not count Jan 16, 2009 On-tap at Sacramento Brewing Company this Belgin IPA Tripel is not what you would expect! Hops are pronounced and definately European.
Malty, with a hint of sweetness in the background the hops dominate. Clear dark amber in appearance with a lingering creamy head and clean mouth feel. Although some Christmas tree is apparent, those who appreciate the hops will enjoy this impor. Hugerat (432), somerville, Massachusetts, USA Jan 12, 2009 Very impressed that they actually pulled this one off. Great floral aroma with the typical delicate fruit and esters of a tripel. Sweet flavor with a little spiciness, and a dry grassy finish. mspindler (301), Alta Loma, California, USA Jan 12, 2009 750 ml. bottle. Pours a hazy golden color with a large rocky white head that clings to the glass. Pleasantly surprising mild aroma of floral hops, some belgian spiciness, fresh fruit and honey. Slightly sweet flavor, pine and pear, peppery and yeasty in the finish. Slight lingering bitterness. Medium bodied and a little too much carbonation for my liking. bethmatt0421 (317), Covington, Kentucky, USA Jan 9, 2009 Pours a pale, and hazy yellow. A thick cloudy white head. Maybe the best beer ive ever smelled with a large floral aroma with a candy sweet touch, sour fruits. Flavor is much the same with an alcohol touch coming through. The marriage of the IPA and tripel turn out to be very well balanced. Not to much bitterness of an IPA, but not the complexity of a true belgian tripel, which makes it all that much more easier to enjoy. A work of art to say the least. ilovedarkbeer (1326), Dallas, Texas, USA Jan 9, 2009 Pours a light golden color with a massive pillowy white head that has unbelievable lacing that looks like gobs of those old egg crate mattress pad liners on the sides of the glass. Nose is corn, a bit of cattiness (saaz hops, bleh!) yeasty baking bread, caramel, grass, and carbonation. Mouthfeel is extremely carbonated yet slightly astringent and very bitter on the back-end. Not exactly enjoyable. There is Such extreme carbonation I am writing this at 4:30 am because I cannot sleep with indigestion. The taste is where this beer is really lacking and personally, I like beer that tastes good. Imagine that! I get corn, wheat, yeast, seltzer, grass, caramel, bit of mulling spices, and some pineapple but nothing delicious. Top rated tripel you have disappointed me. WesKBob (317), Bethany, Oklahoma, USA Jan 3, 2009 An absolutely beautiful beer--looks like a beer commercial with a hazy straw color and a thick, pillow-like white head with excellent retention and lacing. Aroma is light, with hints of citrus and flowery hops. Flavor is slightly sweet, with hints of vanilla, but some hop bitterness in the aftertaste. I like the creativity--they basically took a pretty good Tripel and then added a decent amount of hops to balance out the natural Belgian sweetness. The result is a very clean, crisp taste that lingers on the palate. Just the right amount of hop bite on the back of the throat and masks the ABV well. Very nice.
