Commercial Description:
A unique marriage between the English tradition of IPAs, the new American revolution of Imperial IPAs and the classic Belgian way of brewing. Houblon Chouffe, although very much hopped as it is, showcases the unique balance between a very strong IPA and a very special Belgian Tripel exclusively created for this ale (Big malty body, distinct dryness, expressive estery fruitiness). - IBU: 59, Original Gravity: 1092

Had on tap. This is such a sharp and crisp beer that it is nearly flawless for its style - if this even falls into one category. It is more complex too then what comes across on first taste. It is dry and hoppy and quite carbonated. It is the champagne of beers -f or real. You don’t pick up on the alcohol content as it is smooth in that respect. It really need to be thought about to be appreciated.

Interesting concoction. Very carbonated and yeasty. Like a rich Alka Seltzer, it reminds me of Orval. Has a thick meringue like head, much like Orval, too. Okay, but I probably wouldn’t buy this again.

Bottle. Pours hazy gold with an outrageous white head. I mean, head that climbs an inch and a half over the lip of my glass, and about 45 minutes later as i’m taking the last sip, there’s still a dollop of foam sitting at the bottom of my glass. The aroma is floral and spicy with a hint of sweetness. Nice floral, earthy flavor with some spices, yeast and sweet fruitiness. Very nice.

Summary: Delicious hop bomb that isn’t so much swallowed as sublimed off the tongue. Aroma: Powerful citrus and coniferous hops. Appearance: Bright, hazy yellow. A modest head of small white bubbles settles down to a ring around the glass, leaves only temporary lace. Flavor: A big burst of grapefruit and piney hops dominates each sip, and lasts a long time. Malty elements aren’t so much separable, as they do round out the hops into some sweeter fruits, pineapple especially. Finishes dry with a bitter citrus aftertaste, just a hint of sweet malts lasting through. Palate: The intense hops and sparkling carbonation buzz the tongue with every sip. Swallowing almost seems unnecessary: as it almost as each sip transforms itself into froth in the mouth and vanishes.

NTH TRIAL: Pours a clear, bright, yellow with an uneven head full of tight white bubbles; yeast and citrusy-sweet hops dominate in the nose and continue through in the flavor which is clean and bright with a great balance between sweetness and hoppiness; clean finish that forces me to respect this beer even though it’s not my ideal beverage... The Belgian Tripel/IPA has never really impressed me, but this is as close as it’s ever come. This beer is a legend in its own right and probably even deserves a slightly better rating than my score reflects.

Pours a hazy golden orange with a large milky white creamy head. Very full aroma, Belgian candi sugar, loads of flowery noble, yeasty, light orange. First taste is extremely bitter, juicy & chalky, with sweet spicy orange underneath. Hides the 9% well. Full mouthful, milky with larger but softer carbonation. Finishes very dry with a long bitter/vitamin C aftertaste. I think I prefer de Ranke XX Bitter. It is great to burp up noble hops though! Someone get me some cheese!

Pleasantly crushed con Jakebra. What the fuck am I drinking? So misleading by the appearance. Looks like a cheap Heifeweizen. This is one of the most complexest beers I’ve ever tried. I don’t even know what to say about it. I am so impressed and confused and scared and overwhelmed. Just get this and try it. Absolutely blown away.
