Commercial Description:
A unique marriage between the English tradition of IPAs, the new American revolution of Imperial IPAs and the classic Belgian way of brewing. Houblon Chouffe, although very much hopped as it is, showcases the unique balance between a very strong IPA and a very special Belgian Tripel exclusively created for this ale (Big malty body, distinct dryness, expressive estery fruitiness). - IBU: 59, Original Gravity: 1092

Pop the top and we have a foamer, lost most of the neck. Good thing the beer was ice cold and I had just pulled it from the fridge. If it was warmer I probably would have lost half the bottle. A bit disappointing, that’s something I would expect from a homebrew but not a commercial beer. Pours hazy golden with a huge white lasting head. The most notable part of the aroma is the yeasty esters. Underlying these are hops and some malt. Flavor is interesting. Starts off sweet but then turns dry due to the high level of carbonation. Very noticeable bitterness. Very high carbonation levels, It is ridiculous how much carbonation there is after it warms up. Unique and interesting but loses points due to the absurd level of carbonation.

I wasn’t really sure what to expect with the IPA/Tripel thing but this beer was not only interesting to try but also quite good. Pours a golden, perhaps light orange color with a huge fluffy head. Tons of lacing. Aroma is heavy malty with perfume and some light floral hopping. The flavor is fruity, a bit tangy, with yeast and hop bitterness hitting following the fruity esters. Light numbing and a bit dry in the finish. Definitely seems more Tripel than IPA to me but an interesting blend of flavors that really does work.

Bottle at Kulminator, Antwerp. Pours hazy yellow with abig white head. Very hoppy aroma for a belgian beer. Grass, fresh fruit and spices in nose as well. Flavour is the same with a good alcoholic bite to finish of a great beer.

Fantastic lasting creamy white head over a little hazy yellow beer. Strong and inviting aroma of cookies, pine resins, citric hops, honey, spices, peculiar belgian yeast. Quite a full bodied beer, flavourful, dry bitter lingering end.

Pours a hazy pale gold with a thick lasting white head. Aroma is fruity peach and light lemon. Sweet malt and spicy yeast aromas. Overall the hop aroma is rather played down. Flavour comes across initially as a nice tripel. Spicy malt body, citrus hop flavour comes through in the finish.

Light cloudy gold with a huge, lumpy white head. Aroma is very nice - lots of green hops and tripel spice. The flavor is quite hoppy. The bitterness covers up some of the subtle complexities I would normally expect form a tripel. Still very tasty, dry and refreshing, but I think more standard sweet malts (as in an IPA) compliment this type of heavy hopping better than the tripel does here. Good unique brew.

75cl, exclusive brew, from De Hopduvel Gent, very complex, cloudy, rocky head, the best of the Chouffe-range, one of the best Blonde Belgian beers
