MrBunn (1521), Western, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 14, 2008 Bottle. Pours a hazy orange with quite a bit of a pillowy head. Aromas are a little dusty and reveal a little bit of tartness and funk. Flavor is interesting... almost like a sweet orange and apricot flavors with some sour and bitter stuff around the edges. Alcohol is detectable, but doesn’t really interfere or take center stage at any time. porterhouse (1148), Alna, Maine, USA Jul 14, 2008 (330 ml bottle from 1828 Vintage House, cellared for 11 mos. after purchase) Pours cloudy apricot-amber with two fingers or so of a somewhat lumpy but soft-looking off-white head. Aroma is somewhat sweet and candyish but also with a tart, semi-sour citrus note. Fairly heavy pine like a big IPA. Mouthfeel is fairly soft but but very lightly pebbly. Big, lasting sturdy sheets of lacing. Flavor of light sweet candyish malt and light fruitiness with a light sweet and sour lemon/citrus zing. Lightly tart. A good deal of piney hop presence like a big IPA but more restrained. Light bitter finish. Alcohol well-hidden. Pretty nice integration of Belgian and big IPA styles. DasGrau (18), Topeka, Kansas, USA Jul 14, 2008 Updated: Aug 12, 2008very nice sweet, hoppy aroma. I love how if you tip the bottle upside down and then back up you see all the chunks of good stuff floatin’ around in there! A nice big head that lingers forever was the next thing I noticed. I really like the bitter finish it has. I have bought several bottles and will be getting some more! PecoKid (3), USA does not count Jul 13, 2008 I had a gusher. Purchased at the Party Source in Newport?, KY. Light in colr. Big in flavor. Malty sweetness slightly over powers the hops. I would have liked this a little dryer. Belgian yeast not as pronounced as expected. Amazing head, 1 inch above glass. PeterA (339), Virginia, USA Jul 11, 2008 I understand while many people thing this is an outstanding beer, it’s an interesting interpretation of a popular style. The nose was clearly the hops of an IPA, but with clear notes from a Belgian yeast strain. The head was big and foamy, the color was a cloudy dark yellow. The flavor combined the hopiness of the IPA with the sweet stickinesses of a Tripel. The bitterness in the finish was too much for me. I like what the brewery is doing with this, but it just didn’t do it for me. naivepegasus (183), USA Jul 9, 2008 750 ml into trappist glass. Pours a cloudy light orange with two fingers of creamy, white head. Odor of citrus hops with a hint of some dark fruits. Really complex flavor. Starts off with a taste of plum and dark fruits which quickly shifts into a really nice bitter hop finish. An interesting mix between Belgium style and IIPA. Really good. thomat (666), Göteborg, Sweden Jul 9, 2008 Hazy, pale amber with a creamy white head. Tones of cheese and hops. Malt and bitter taste. Medium to full body with a long bitter finish. dmtroyer (409), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 8, 2008 33cl. Poured a lovely hazy yellow with the frothiest white head I have ever seen, turns into something like meringue; I got a bridge! Some menthol in the nose on top of loads of sweet malt, and some spiciness. Body is truly flavorful with loads of orange zest, some lemon zest, raw sugar, bubblegum, and bread dough. I got some copper pipe on the dry finish where it lingers for a long while, coating the palate in lactic acid. Truly unique, the best of both worlds, in my humble opinion.
