wickedpete (625), Lexington Park, Maryland, USA Mar 30, 2008 Cloudy gold with a puffy pillow of white head persists as I drink. Aroma is yeasty, citrus lemony, kind of spicy. Flavor is biscuity, yeasty, sweet malty with a slight hoppy dryness. This goes down very easy and very fast. RichJ7 (1175), Cullman, Alabama, USA Mar 29, 2008 Cloudy golden pour with an amazingly gigantic creamy white head ... like meringue ... it never really goes away. Almost creepy. Pleasantly hoppy nose with a sugary sweetness. Flavor is a very interesting mix of malty fruit sweetness and hop bitterness. Gains tons of character as it warms. Bready, yeasty, hoppy, fruity ... the lovechild of a tripel and an IPA. Very complex with a dry, grainy finish. I liked it a lot. Beershine (2678), Hue, Vietnam Mar 28, 2008 Golden haze with characteristic rocky head. Classy and restrained like an old film star. Occupies a dry gorgeous pocket of Belgian IPA beauty. DYCSoccer17 (2187), Davis, California, USA Mar 28, 2008 750mL bottle purchased from the Davis Food Co-Op. Aroma is exceedingly sweet, candy-sugar like with plenty of honey notes present. Some light floral and herbal notes are in there, too. Peculiar aroma. Quite hazy honey colored body with a large, frothy white head and quite a bit of lacing present. Start is sweet, sticky, and pretty herbal. Lots of doughiness with some citrus flavors towards the middle. There is lingering sweet, sugary flavors throughout with a light, piney hoppiness to finish. Very sweet mandarin orangey flavors. I don’t know, I am not enjoying this as much as others. The alcohol is very well hidden, though. TURDFERGUSON (1594), Carrboro, North Carolina, USA Mar 26, 2008 Draught at Milltown. Pours a hazy golden with a very nice meringue-like white head and nice lacing througout. Real Belgians on draught are always a treat for the eyes. Nose is earthy, with some citrus hops, and bit of lemon tartness. Flavor is dry and bitter with a bit of sweetness from the tripel, but lacking a bit when compared with the nose. Smooth, bitter finish. Nice stuff that I think I enjoyed more on draught.
kmeves (1080), Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, USA Mar 25, 2008 Pours a hazy pale golden topped by a huge rocky white head that remains throughout the brew and nice lacing . Aroma is sweet, floral, herbal, light pepper and some citrus. Flavor is moderately sweet, herbal, floral, pepper and grass. Nice balance along the lines of DeRanke Bitter. Short dry bitter finish. Soft mouthfeel, medium body. SamGamgee (1396), Santa Cruz (La Selva), California, USA Mar 24, 2008 33cl bottle. Hazy dark yellow with a meringue-like white head that lasts longer then the beer and laces liberally. Fruity and yeasty aroma with peppery spice and lots of pineapple. The flavor has lots of fruit: pineapple and citrus that seems to be from the hops. Hop flavor is big considering, but the sweet fruitiness definitely dominates it. Sweet and full, with a dry bitterness in the finish that hints at an IPA, though remains very belgian. Alcohol presence is minimal. Full and chewy mouthfeel with smooth but ample carbonation. Tripels usually aren’t my favorite Belgian style, but this has an interesting complexity and clash of influences that makes it very tasty. I how an american that is used to IPAs would find this much more appealing than a typical tripel. Guerde (696), Welcome, Minnesota, USA Mar 24, 2008 (bottle) Pours out hazy gold with a large white head that clumped and left lacing on the glass. The aroma was strong of banana, grass, lemon peel, pepper, and bready yeast along with spice. This tasted really sweet upfront with some banana, spices, and a yeasty finish that rounded out to a bitter hoppiness. Medium to thick mouthfeel, a solid beer.
