Taverner (825), San Ramon, California, USA Oct 22, 2007 Updated: Aug 29, 2009This beer is excellent. As good as fellow Belgian IPA Piraat, this one is more hoppy, stronger and unlike Piraat you know this is an IPA. Creamy and champagne like (like most belgians) the beer has a nice citrusey flavor.SECOND OPINION: I still love this beer as an excellent Belgian Style IPA without overkill on the banana and clove like so many others. This one is full of grassy hops and ends clean - although a very dry beer. BartC (398), Lichtaart, Belgium Oct 22, 2007 Gold-orange hazy beer with a nicely developed white creamy head. Nice hoparomas. Lemon, oranges and also grassy in the nose. I taste some acidity at first. Then the hopbitterness comes and lasts very long. Again nice fruitiness, but also grasses reappear. ultraspank (866), Dublin, Ohio, USA Oct 20, 2007 Had this @ The Winking Lizard with my boys Tony & Sean after a hard week Friday night. Nose of banana, bubblegum, pears, apples & flowers. Pours a clear sparkling blonde. The mammoth stiff & tight white rocky head is fully lasting with insane lace. The brew is very unique. The start is bready with a light acidity. There is no alcohol bleed or warmth despite the 9% abv. The finish is lengthy and bitter. The medium body is creamy and soft. Hats off to Tony for a winning selection. MoDog (909), Griffith, Indiana, USA Oct 17, 2007 Poured from a 750ml bottle, and served in a tulip. This beer poured a slightly cloudy golden color with a large, long lasting head of white foam. Some solid lacing was left around the glass. The aroma of the beer was made up of lemony citrus notes, orange, biscuit, and also some light candi sugar. The flavor consisted of orange, spicy yeast esthers, biscuit, light grapefruit, and also a touch of alcohol. The mouthfeel was full-bodied with a lively level of carbonation. The finish was dry with a slightly lasting bitterness. Decent, but not nearly as interesting as I had hoped. matt7215 (942), Cambridge, Ontario, Canada Oct 16, 2007 750 ml bottle from a trade with hogtownhary. pours a hazy golden witha huge rocky white head. aromas are yeasty with noticeable hops. the saaz hops are more pronounced then the others. flavours are an interesting bland of the two styles. you can definantly tell this is a triple but there is an ipaish amount of hops floating around. the saaz stand out in the flavours as well. the hops are more noticeable when this beer is well chilled but as it warms its complexity improves and it becomes much more layered. this is a unique beer and i enjoyed it throughly. WabashMan (798), Noblesville, Indiana, USA Oct 16, 2007 A lovely, dark gold Tripel, with an almost white head. Nose is nicely hopped, with dominant yeast nots, but a tad thin. Flavors are very good, and full. Spicy up front, with an enjoyable triple crispness. Hoppy and bitter in the finish. This beer really does a nice job of combining great characteristics of tripels and IPAs. BenRod (44), Springfield, Missouri, USA Oct 13, 2007 Hazy blonde color with white head. nice lacing. Citrusy accent in aroma, very strong hops flavor that lasts. Zinister (1198), Houston, Texas, USA Oct 11, 2007 Bottle I picked up at BevMo in SLO. Pours a hazy-Houston sunrise yellow with an enormous pure white head that has great lacing. In fact, the head disappeared on the sides and left this intriguing Devil’s Tower replica in the middle every time I poured...I half expected Richard Dreyfus to show up at my house and request mashed potatoes. Aromas of Belgian yeast and hops...spices just behind that. Taste is very unique and wonderfully pleasing. Soft malts, apples and pears up front, followed by armies of marching hops...here they come! Wow...slowly attacks the tongue with fantastic hop flavors. Citrus...grapefruit and lime/lemons....along with pine resin and bread notes. Gives a very interesting tingly feeling on the tongue...like it’s dancing a jig for the beer gods. Finish lingers...which is great, because now I’m done with this great brew.
