A unique marriage between the English tradition of IPAs, the new American revolution of Imperial IPAs and the classic Belgian way of brewing. Houblon Chouffe, although very much hopped as it is, showcases the unique balance between a very strong IPA and a very special Belgian Tripel exclusively created for this ale (Big malty body, distinct dryness, expressive estery fruitiness). - IBU: 59, Original Gravity: 1092

UPDATED: NOV 23, 2012 Served in a tulip. Long lasting and beautiful white rocky head. Hops’ blend is to die for (citrus, floral). Malty, finest cereals, slight toastiness. Very bubbly, champagne-like. A nice spicyness - Achouffe’s special yeast. WOW!

Bottle @ home. Pours golden with a creamy head. Aroma is malt, hops and little spiciness. Taste of malt, spices with a medium bitter aftertaste.

330ml bottle, poured into La Chouffe tulip. A: Pale golden, slightly hazy, two finger head, pretty decent retention, left lots of lacing on the glass. S: Phenols, earth and starch took on and beat the citrus hops in the battle for attention. T: Followed the nose, strong hints of grapefruit, long hard lingering bitterness which was combined with the typical yeast profile of La Chouffe beers, also had a boozy kick. M: Moderate carbonation, fairly light body for the high strength, crisp texture. O: Definitely a Belgian tripel, had more in common with Val Dieu or Straffe Hendrik tripel than any American IPA.

Butelka. Strasznie jasne, slomkowe, zolte piwo. fajna wysoka piana, dosc szybko redukujaca sie. zaczalem pic za zimne i brrrr... po poczekaniu: triplowy aromat z mocnymi, cytrusowo-zywicznymi chmielami. Smak takiz. Klasa.

I really like this ale. The aroma is a very blended hops, perfume smell that has a freshness to it. The appearance is great- very cloudy yellow which almost looks green in the right light. The taste is a mix of standard belgian tripel (think duvel) but with a citrus dry mix common in american IPAs. The palate is a bit spicy and dry, but overall very refreshing and smooth for 9%. i think this is an accomplished and refreshing beer, that deserves world class ratings for its sucessful blending of styles.

Not sure this quite works. Gold, cloudy, with a foamy white head. Oily, medium body. Main elements are syrup and herbs. Thought this would be great - can’t say it was.

Poured from a bottle. Citrusy, malty sweet, bready, resin. Signs of oxidation. This has been handled poorly.

Poured from the tap. Slightly hazy light golden blonde with full white head. Yeast and spice with some subtle hops, mild sweet malt with a tinge of sourness. Slightly dry creamy texture.

Wonderful melange and confusion of styles. Bitter-Sweet with a green hoppy finish.
