A unique marriage between the English tradition of IPAs, the new American revolution of Imperial IPAs and the classic Belgian way of brewing. Houblon Chouffe, although very much hopped as it is, showcases the unique balance between a very strong IPA and a very special Belgian Tripel exclusively created for this ale (Big malty body, distinct dryness, expressive estery fruitiness). - IBU: 59, Original Gravity: 1092

750ml green bottle. Capped. Lemony yellow colour, massive sized, super frothy white head, probably the most intense, most dense head I’ve encountered, certainly ranks up there with the marvelous foam that Orval has to offer. Needless to say this beer has great lacing, sticky foam. Mild haze. Aroma is fruity, lemony. Fairly hoppy, though some sweet malt/fruitiness shows below the lemon and grapefruit hops. Medium bitterness, citrus/grassy aftertaste. Crisp and tight carbonation, medium body. Does not drink it’s strength. Hard to think of this as solely a tripel, but an awesome hybrid. I pretty much liked everything about this beer, it’s only "weakness" was in its aroma, which was still great to style, will be revisiting this often as long as it’s stocked in this province.

Poured from an 11 oz bottle into a tulip glass. Hazy golden color with a persistent white head that laces the glass. Aroma is spice, some sweet malts, and hops. Medium body with average carbonation. Very long bitter finish. Possibly the most bitter Belgian I’ve ever had. Complex, with lots of contrast for the senses between the maltiness and hops.

33 cl bottle, served in snifter glass. Poured hazy blonde with a frothy 3 finger off white head. Soft carbonation in glass. Aroma: grass, floral, citrus, caramel, herbs, bread. Taste: ’powerful’ is the first thing that comes to my mind when having the first sip of this Belgian Tripel IPA. Notes of grassy hops, flowers, herbs, pine, toast with apricot jam, honey, bread, hay, earth. Medium to full body with a long, dry, bittersweet finish. Very nice Tripel/IPA

Deep cloudy dark straw, almost golden color, with floating detritus and slow moving powerful explosive activity. Super frothy ultra thick white 4 finger island head, that lasts for 20 minutes, with incredible stricky legs. Aromas of fresh flowers, grassy hops, and pleasant malts. Flavors of fresh citrus like lemon and orange, sweet grains, spruce, floral and noble spices. Pleasant thick bitter hoppiness with a perfect citrus and fruity sugary feel. Oily creamy full body with champagne like carbonation. Strong finish that ends quite clean with a palate consisting of piney and grassy hops, roasted malts, and faint lingering yeast. Overall extremely well crafted: Delicious complex flavors with a super fresh feel and a nice intensity. Balanced sweetness and sharpness. Faint acidic vinous feel yet strangely not boozy at all. Warming and ultra sexy. Well executed mix of IPA and Tripel, the best of both worlds.

Lemon golden, rich head. Spices, lemon, stables, herbs, flowers. Very rich aroma and the notes mixed within a touch of alcohol. Crisp but a bit sweet, spicy taste. Medium spicy, herbal bitterness on finish. Great.

Cloudy pale yellow body with big frothy white foam.Pleasant aroma with slight hops and toasty malt. Sweet with slight bitterness. Doesn’t feel like it’s strong even with 9% APV

Retrogusto persistente.

Bottle at the Wellington Arms, Bedford. Golden and slightly hazy with a milky white film of head on top. Muted grassy hop smell with a note of sugary yeast. Sweet, strong yeasty taste. Belies the high strength. Perfectly carbonated. A beer to enjoy but maybe not to love.
