Ungstrup (11164), Frederiksberg, Denmark Dec 3, 2006 A golden beer with sediment floating around under a whipped cream like head. The aroma is sweet with lots of spices and malt notes. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of citrus and spices, the notes of spices grows in intensity towards the end, which is quite dry. An OK Belgian ale, but I had expected much more hops in it. omhper (10456), Stockholm, Sweden Aug 3, 2006 Updated: Aug 28, 2006[Bottled at Akkurat, Stockholm] Hazy pale golden, very rich and firm head. Powerful flowery hops combines with estery raspberry candy in the aroma. Sweet with soft, light, sparkling mouthfeel. Rich on hops with intriguing yeasty character. The alcohol is noticable and lifts the beer even further. Candyish finish with good bitterness. A complex beer with an unusual cross of rich hoppiness and superb malt character. Papsoe (9999), Frederiksberg, Denmark Dec 3, 2006 (Bottle 75 cl) Pours a cloudy golden with a tall, white head leaving laces. Aroma of yeast and very refined, lightly perfumy hops. Medium body with flavours of yeast and quite some maltiness. And then a solid dose of hops in the finish. Must be one of the most bitter Belgians. 011206 Oakes (6853), Miami Beach, Florida, USA May 27, 2006 Poured in a Duvel glass and has a similar, but slightly darker hazy golden colour and giant head. Let sit, it forms wicked crazy head formations. How cute, it thinks it’s a cross between Duvel and Orval. The head even formed a fucking bridge, which is so unprecented I had no choice but to drop an F-bomb. The aroma is of dusty yeast, foresty-tangeriney hops, subtle coriander and bog myrtle (OK, this may just be Chouffe yeast but you can’t have one without the other, can you?). Bitter, rooty flavours crossing between grassy and citrusy (kumquat, lime, yuzu) hops. Malts are bready fresh and doughy warm. The yeast provides the strongest "tripel" element, a dusty almost leathery signature. The alcohol makes itself evident towards the finish, along with a sweet malty kiss before fading into an unrelenting bitterness. OK - cut back on the bitterness and you’ve got a better beer, but also one that’s been done a few times already. With the bitterness, it is unique and interesting but not quite as good. Hey, I still like it, and now I’ve got the rest of the bottle to enjoy. Where’d I put that stilton? yespr (6400), Copenhagen O, Denmark Aug 9, 2008 75 cL bottle. Pours hazy orange with a slowly collapsing yet quite stable head. Off-white. Aroma is fantastic, smooth and mellow yeasty, mild spiced and caramel malt in a classic and almost supurb mix. In addition the aroma hops of amarillo, tomahawk and saaz join in giving a great twist to this. Flavour is dense spiced mixed with a nice mellow mix of yeast and caramel malt. Again the oily hops work quite well with this mix providing even more strength to the classic triple flavour. This is so smooth and so flavourful a triple - fantastic. Only downside - a vague bit too strong flavoured perhaps.
