Commercial Description:
A unique marriage between the English tradition of IPAs, the new American revolution of Imperial IPAs and the classic Belgian way of brewing. Houblon Chouffe, although very much hopped as it is, showcases the unique balance between a very strong IPA and a very special Belgian Tripel exclusively created for this ale (Big malty body, distinct dryness, expressive estery fruitiness). - IBU: 59, Original Gravity: 1092

750 ml bottle. Bitter-phenolic perfection follows. Shiny golden-yellow body with medium carbonation and a big foamy, but initially uniform white head that eroded into long-lasting, gravity-defying, and improbable foam structures. Aroma is somewhat muted by the persistent head but reveals notes of whole oranges, flowers, and doughy biscuits. Flavor brings an interesting blend of floral characters, camphorous phenols, spicy hops, medium warm honey sweetness, and pleasant bitterness. Tantalizing blend of bitterness and phenols, like bitter melon. Has mouth-numbing properties and is full-flavored with ample body. Not what I expected, but very addictive and really, really good.

Hoppy nose on this brown pour. Hoppy and sweet with hints of apple fruitiness. Cellar’s tasting.

Hazy yellow-orange body, thick puffy off-white head. Pillowy. Aroma of lemon, pepper, and spice, bitter, chalky, and estery, very similar to a saison, and on the bitter side for a Tripel (as suggested by the label). Lemony body with white pepper and other spices, cloves, esters and breads, perfume. Just the slightest hint of banana imparted by the yeast. Medium-bodied, dense flavor profile. Interesting hybrid.

Bottle from Beverage Castle in Tampa <P> Very yeasty aroma with some tart white fruits and a bit of ripe lemon. Pours a pale straw yellow with a fullfy white three finger thick head. Yeasty fore with a bit of honeydew melon, apple, pear and citrus. Medium bitterness that doesn’t start to truly strengthen till the finish. Lemongrass and sweet bannana notes come out as well. The far finish leaves a dry tongue coating bitterness, but the best part of the beer to me is the sweet mellow fruitiness that is strongest in the middle. I quite like this. Has the typical belgian feel with a load more hops-for a Belgian ale. It’s defitely more of a Belgian Strong than an IPA, but it’s a nice beer no matter what you call it.

(bottle - 750 ml) Hazy and bubbly orange in color with a puffy and lasting white head. Aroma is sweet and yeasty at the beginning just like a good Belgian tripel with a bitter and surprisingly hoppy middle. There’s lots of spices and orange peel as well. Flavor begins with a nice and hoppy flavor but quickly moves to a malty and spicy Belgian middle and a spicy yet bitter and hoppy finish. Extremely interesting combination of an IPA and a tripel.

Hazy yellow beer with a huge white head that left sheets of lacing. Lots of floral hops in the nose with a soft spicyness. I found this to be a bit of a schizophrenic beer, torn between the IPA and the triple. Lots of hop bitterness with corriander spice, candied orange rind and yeast. Unique flavor, but hard to get your tongue around.

Bottle. Pours a hazy yellow-white body with yeast specks and a medium creamy white head and lacing. The aroma has Belgian yeast fruitiness (pear) and a plethora of spicy hops. The flavour is spicy and cheesy with cookie notes and is expressively bitter. A great fusion of two great styles. I very much enjoyed this!
