750 mL bottle, "Best Before End 2009." Age or enjoy now? The may be not the right point to be considered cellared or new, but it may be my last big beer before vacation. I forget sometimes how deceptively light and golden the Belgian dubbel-tripel-quads are. Big rocky head. Beer is cloudy with visible floaty bits, which I never thought to see in a Tappist-based Belgian. Smell from the bottle is surprisingly grainy, just a whiff of hops. Grainy smell in my IPA tulip glass, too. A peak of foam sits about an inch above the rim like root beer float foam. Foam tastes a bit like an all-grain homebrewed IPA. Finally I can get down to the beer, and find the nice big, golden barleys of a true tripel. Hops are still present, but not to the level of a big American Pale Ale. Guess when this is around two years old, the hop sensation has migrated to the foam. Malt is light and smooth, but does carry the impression of alcohol that warns you to settle and don’t drink too much at once.

4.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
Pours a cloudy yellow colour. Head grows fast, is very abundant and long lasting. Great lacing. Aroma is a bit confusing. The name of the beer sugests some american hops used but I couldn’t find them with my nose. Instead, a classical belgian tripel aroma of banana, some cloves, peach and yeast arised - much to my satisfaction in fact. Taste followed the aroma, the beer spreads gently on the palate giving the feel of sweeteness. Strong but gentle albedo bitterness in the finish, a telltale sign of american hops. No hint of alcohol whatsoever. Wonderful beer, I couldn’t resist to take more and more sips. Bottle 750.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a cloudy pee color with no head and only a little white lacing. An ugly beer. Aroma of banana, hay, Belgium yeast. Taste is not bad more Belgium than IPA. Tastes of banana, alcohol and citrus hops. Not a bad beer.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a cloudy yellowish color. While this has good lacing, there is no head retention and is just not a visually attractive beer. It smells of Belgian yeast and banana which is a big plus. Drinks much easier than a 9% should.

Robe jaune claire, surprenant pour une IPA. Belle amertume qui laisse de la place au côté fruité de la Chouffe. Beaux arômes d’houblon.

3.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
The name of this beer might be slightly confusing; is it an IPA? is it a Tripel? It has some fresh hoppyness one might classify as an IPA but it’s mostly a Tripel or Strong Belgian Ale. Has a lot in common with the Blonde beer by La Chouffe and is actually quite nice.

Uit de fles. Ruikt zoals de normale la chouffe dus hoge verwachtingen. Smaak is echter wel minder dan de normale, bittere afdronk, hoe wel het wel wat fruitig is. Ik zou toch voor de normale chouffe gaan

From the bottle pours a piss coloured beer. The taste is really grainy. Too earthy for me.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Cloudy yellow color with huge head. A very well-balanced aroma of fruity & floral hops, but not too much, and yeasty spices. The taste is fruity and refreshing, the sweet malt body is not as heavy as that of a standard Imperial IPA, but still well-defined. A very nice bastard between the double IPA and tripel styles.

33 cl Duvel/Snifter. Pours an abundant dense frothy and rocky white head, nice golden to light orange colour, bit hazy. Smells very fruity and estery, tropical/ peach fruit, hoppy/resin/herbs, floral; wrapping, exotic, refreshing: very nice. Tastes very much like smells, fruity, "belgian" typical character, both malts and hops defined; small to medium ester sweetness, medium+ very fruity/piny bitterness. Lively carbonation, medium/full bodied, dry finish, awesome bitter/sweet balance. A fruity/fresh hopped belgian tripel, an awesome beer

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle at Turisten, Ljungskile. Pours hazy golden-orange with a massive white cloudy persistent foam, when it finally dissipates it leaves some lacings and a lid on the surface. Aroma is pale and sweet malt, bananas and yeast spices and a nice flowery hoppy touch. Taste basically follows the aroma, with big malty flavours, yeasty notes with spices and coriander, flowery hops that grows bigger towards the end which also has traces of soil and finishes dry. Quite low bitterness despite the hoppy character. Medium to full body, medium carbo, slight oily texture. Just ace.
