A unique marriage between the English tradition of IPAs, the new American revolution of Imperial IPAs and the classic Belgian way of brewing. Houblon Chouffe, although very much hopped as it is, showcases the unique balance between a very strong IPA and a very special Belgian Tripel exclusively created for this ale (Big malty body, distinct dryness, expressive estery fruitiness). - IBU: 59, Original Gravity: 1092

750 mL bottle, "Best Before End 2009." Age or enjoy now? The may be not the right point to be considered cellared or new, but it may be my last big beer before vacation. I forget sometimes how deceptively light and golden the Belgian dubbel-tripel-quads are. Big rocky head. Beer is cloudy with visible floaty bits, which I never thought to see in a Tappist-based Belgian. Smell from the bottle is surprisingly grainy, just a whiff of hops. Grainy smell in my IPA tulip glass, too. A peak of foam sits about an inch above the rim like root beer float foam. Foam tastes a bit like an all-grain homebrewed IPA. Finally I can get down to the beer, and find the nice big, golden barleys of a true tripel. Hops are still present, but not to the level of a big American Pale Ale. Guess when this is around two years old, the hop sensation has migrated to the foam. Malt is light and smooth, but does carry the impression of alcohol that warns you to settle and don’t drink too much at once.

Murky yellow, soapy white head. Nose is fruit, some sweetness, alcohol, hops, yeast, dust. Flavor is spice, malt, hoppy bitterness, some fruity notes, citrus. Finish has a lot of bitterness. Crisp mouthfeel, lively carbonation.

Draft. clear golden pour in a flute glass. Medium bubbly white head that leaves lots of sticky lacing. Citrus and spice aroma. Taste is quite spicy, some grains and a predominate alcohol flavour. Medium body, bit syrupy, some pricking bubbles.

courtesy of bartlebier, thank you! very complex aroma: Weihrauch, freshly baked apple pie, rum-raisins, bitter orange marmalade, taste with components of marzipan, dried fruits, oranges and liquorice, all crisply balanced by the strong bitter hops, lingering on at the finish. A complex, very interesting beer!

Courtesy of Bartlebier - Sehr komplexes Aroma, das an eingelegte Früchte, Brotteig und Wiesenblumen erinnert. Geschmacklich wird etwas fein-belgisches abgerundet durch eine feine IPA-Bittere. Angenehmer Abgang.

From the tap poured a hazy golden brew with an ample white head. Thi IPA has more delicate hop an d malt flavors. Just what I would expect from a Belgium.

Tap @ Capital Ale Downtown. Hazy yellow with nice thick white head and generous lacing. Aroma is faintly of coriander and a little white pepper and a hint of banana- maybe a little rubber. Nice and crisp and dry. Tastes like a good kicked up pilsener with some extra hand time on the light hoppy finish.

Light sun yellow and lightly opalescent in colour with a large froth white fading head with good lacings. On the nose aromas of barnyard, dust/earth, grass and light floral/fruity hops develop. A soft prickle and the beer develops a light slick textured full body. The finish is malty and offers some fruity earthy flavours and lasts pleasantly for a good while.

Bottle, 0.33l, shared with friends. Hazy deep color with medium creamy off-white head and nice lacing. Aroma of yeast, bread, floral and resin hops and spices. Taste starts with rich and moderate sweet toasted maltiness, following is fruity and yeasty sour with dry and spicy mouthfeel, while finish is long and bitter. Full body, thick texture and average carbonation in palate. Excellent hybrid brew with very useful hoppy add-on...
