COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A unique marriage between the English tradition of IPAs, the new American revolution of Imperial IPAs and the classic Belgian way of brewing. Houblon Chouffe, although very much hopped as it is, showcases the unique balance between a very strong IPA and a very special Belgian Tripel exclusively created for this ale (Big malty body, distinct dryness, expressive estery fruitiness). - IBU: 59, Original Gravity: 1092

I understand while many people thing this is an outstanding beer, it’s an interesting interpretation of a popular style. The nose was clearly the hops of an IPA, but with clear notes from a Belgian yeast strain. The head was big and foamy, the color was a cloudy dark yellow. The flavor combined the hopiness of the IPA with the sweet stickinesses of a Tripel. The bitterness in the finish was too much for me. I like what the brewery is doing with this, but it just didn’t do it for me.

Bottle from Saveur Bière. Big bubbly and white head. Golden and almost clear body. Smells of grass, citrus, apricot, barley. Tastes dry and sweet at first, grass, citrus and plum. Very bitter aftertaste. Well balanced and complex with its hints of being an IPA but still having a distinct Belgian style.

330ml bottle pours an orangey yellow with a bubbly white head that soon dissipates to cap. Aroma is sweet and hoppy, banana, bit of yeast. Lovely mouth feel, creamy nice carbonation but not overdone. Taste, great, sweet maltiness with loads of ripe fruit and a really good lingering hoppy bitter finish with bags of warmth. Great.

Foam: nice big white creamy very slowly dissipates. Colour: haze pale orange/yellow. Aroma: nice refreshing lemon, grapefruit, banana, grass, herbal, hops, yeast. Taste: citrus and banana, clove, coriander, anise, pine/grapefruit strong bitter finish, good, complex brew, dry, balanced, and full of hoppy character. The alcohol is well hidden, I like this style (IPA + Belgian triple) pretty much and can only recommend to try for everyone who like hops.

Bottle. Opaque bright golden body, tall lasting head. Aroma has a delicate balance of floral hops and Belgian yeast, gives you a pretty good idea of how this is going to taste like. Has a full malty body (maltier than many other good Tripels) with a nice amount of floral hops and also some yeast. The spiciness is also there, in a perfect amount. Also some sweet melony bubblegum notes (the ones I had as a kid in the 90s that had stickers of TV shows or comics in them). I like the balanced combination of malts and hoppiness here. Especially the rich maltiness. I like that it’s not overhopped to the point where you can’t appreciate the malts anymore. And of course, the alcohol is easily covered in this one. Top Tripel for sure.

Pours pale lemon yellow, not even reaching golden hues. Head is white and thick. Smells of grapefruit, orange blossom, plum and iron. Fresh and watery, with aggressive carbonation. Balanced long finish between bitter and sour. Not bad.

Grass, spruce aroma (maybe slighty cheese like). Yellow-orange colour, a bit cloudy with foamy, frothy head. Light sweetness, light bitterness.
