A unique marriage between the English tradition of IPAs, the new American revolution of Imperial IPAs and the classic Belgian way of brewing. Houblon Chouffe, although very much hopped as it is, showcases the unique balance between a very strong IPA and a very special Belgian Tripel exclusively created for this ale (Big malty body, distinct dryness, expressive estery fruitiness). - IBU: 59, Original Gravity: 1092

I understand while many people thing this is an outstanding beer, it’s an interesting interpretation of a popular style. The nose was clearly the hops of an IPA, but with clear notes from a Belgian yeast strain. The head was big and foamy, the color was a cloudy dark yellow. The flavor combined the hopiness of the IPA with the sweet stickinesses of a Tripel. The bitterness in the finish was too much for me. I like what the brewery is doing with this, but it just didn’t do it for me.

Bottle in Bruxelles. A mix between a DIPA and a Belgian triple. Pale but a bit hazy with big head. Not as hoppy and bitter as other Disaster, but good.

Bottle. Pours clear, golden with huge but not so beautiful foam head. Aroma of noble hops, grassy, floral with some "Belgian" notes, like peach. It’s definitely dry beer. It’s quite bitter, but of course not like American-Style Imperial IPAs. Same notes like in aroma plus alcohol.

750ml bottle. Hazy golden yellow with a frothy white head. Flavors are pine resin, tropical fruits, passion fruit, pineapple, honey, citrus, grass and dough with spicy and floral notes. Medium body, moderate carbonation, creamy texture.

Tap. Semi-opaque straw gold. Belgian lacing. Nose of straw, sort of earthy. Creamy mouthfeel. Strong hops at front laced with some candi sugar. Hops overpower the abbey quality here.

An aroma of lemon, passion fruit, and vanilla, almost a hidden bit of banana. Appears bright hazy yellow, some lace, some foam. Tastes of passion fruit followed by a prominent and not really balanced hay bitterness. Palate is ordinary. Overall, nice.

Pale golden yellow pour with small off white head. Aroma of malts, fruit, yeast and hops. Taste of malts, caramel, yeast, slightly fruity, dry peppery hop finish. Medium bodied, higher carbonation, slighty too hoppy for me on the finish for a tripel.

Bottle. Slightly pale golden yellow with a thin, quickly slinking head. Very interesting beer. Typical IPA hop taste, some fruits and malt, combined with the taste of a characteristic Belgian Tripel. Bitter and hoppy aftertaste.

Aroma: vanilla, bubblegum, bread, cereal, resin Appearance: pale, hazy, minimal head Taste: medium bitterness, light sweetness, lightly sour Palate: medium body, slick feel, soft carbonation, long finish Perfectly hidden alcohol, IPA feel mostly in the aftertaste, generally closer to a tripel. Strong yeast aroma.
