Smell was rather flat with just a hint of fruit aroma. Color was a slightly darker than most Normand ciders, but had the traditional small amount of bubbles gathered at teh top of the glass. Unfortunately, was rather flavorless to match the lack of aroma. A dry taste with VERY subtle apple taste. Sweet with a crisp finish. Not worth the drive half way across Chicago for.

Pours a deep golden (very deep for a cider) with lots of effervescent champagne like bubbles. The cider also heads up huge and the head virtually disappears in seconds the way that Champagne does.

The aroma is crisp and apple-y with some light mineral character, some white grape, and a nice soft floral note.

The flavor starts fruity with a touch of sweetness but turns dry in quite a hurry. Some mineral flavors are present throughout, when at cellar temp there is a sulfur note mid palate but this fades as it warms even a bit. The apple flavor is lovely, certainly more of a red apple flavor and really the flavor of apple rind is as prevalent if not more so than the the flavor of the apple flesh. The cider finishes dry and fairly clean. Overall the tartness level on the cider is low to moderate and this is perhaps as similar to a dry sparkling wine as I’ve ever tasted in a cider with a bubbly mouthfeel to match. Very good.

750 ml bottle. Golden body with a thin white head that fades quickly. Mild, and acidic apple aroma with some wood. Flavor is dry apple, moderate acidity, and distinct wood. Aftertaste has more obvious apple flavor. Not great, but nice and quite fascinating.

Bottle, 75cl corked. It’s quite fizzy in the glass, clear, golden in color and some bubbles on top. The aroma has a faint woody touch, or maybe it’s more apple cores. It gives signals of being acidic, but it’s not very acidic when tasting it. Mostly apples, apple cores and with a little touch of something reminiscent of sulphur. A quite decent cider, but a bit weak and boring. 120124

750 ml "champagne" bottle, as "Comte Louis de Lauriston Cidre Brut de Normandie", from Vinmonopolet, bestillingsutvalget. Christian Drouin is not mentioned on the label, but I assume he is the distributor. ABV is 4.8%. Golden colour, pours very fizzy with a huge but short-lived white head. Strong aroma of oxidised cider apples and sulphites. The flavour is medium sweet with notes of cider apples and sulphites. Slightly astringent finish. Nice enough to drink.

750ml bottle (Rimi, Tallinn)
Pushes the cork out and opens with quite a pop. Oooh, that cork smells lovely - pure apples. And indeed, on pouring, there’s a glorious appley aroma. In the mouth there’s almost brandy-like aromas, not alcohol, but the old barrels aspect. Crisp carbonation. Lovely normandy brut, classic for the style. Fruitiness from the aroma has aged in the taste. The finish is semi-dry, and I wish it lasted longer.

UPDATED: FEB 17, 2012 Bottled. A golden cider with a huge cream colored head. The aroma is sweet with notes of wood and apples, and so is the flavor, leading to an acidic finish. Nice.
