3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 StewardofGondor (1934) - Washington Heights - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - MAR 6, 2006Semi-syrupy pour, settling in as dark, translucent and ruby-accented midnight brown in color. Spittle wisps comprise the head and leave an etchy off-white wrung. Somewhat traditional aroma consists of maple, pecans, pralines, caramel-drizzled prunes, toasted vanilla wafers and chocolate grahams. Moderate assertion of liquefied Rolos comes to fruition in the flavor. S’mores held altogether and too close to the flame. Mildly toasted, chocolate-covered, unsalted pecans. Chocolate mocha in a pudding-like form, served out of an espresso tin. Margarine caked bottoms of Tollhouse caramel cookies, just moments after pulling them out of the oven two minutes too early. Palate smacking, caramel cushioned and an oily whole-chocolate milk mouth glide. Simple complexity and honorable carbonation, but scant noble hop activity. Finish is summarized by a dense, new form of tiramisu, principally pulling like a concrete fork load from the top most layers. Definitely a doppelbock on its own terms. Thanks so much for the bottle, Styles!

On tap at the Moerlein Brewhouse. Pours a clear medium amber with next to no head. Caramel malt aroma. Sweet caramel malt taste along with nuttiness, butteriness and a slightly tart bitterness. Good effort.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20 brenn79 (1198) - Idaho, USA - MAR 27, 2010
UPDATED: APR 1, 2010 12 oz. bottle from beer club- Pours deep amber with a collar of foam, aroma is sweet malt and brown sugar. The flavor is mellow and sweet malt with little to no bitterness or hops, but Dopplebocks are not meant to, this is a very drinkable beer and is probably the best of the March 2010 beer club.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 BlackForestCO (958) - Aurora, Colorado, USA - FEB 27, 2008
Bottle thanks to jsquire. Poured a cloudy deep brown color with a moderate beige head that diminished to a ring. Aroma of brown sugar, biscuits, and light fruit. Sweet brown sugar and caramel entry leads into a smooth finish with fruity undertones, namely apple, and possibly a hint of plum. Pretty creamy and smooth. Simple, but a nice doppelbock that is easy to drink. Thanks Jeff.

Not a bad Dopple Bock (nowhere near the level of Celabrator or Paulaner). Nice aroma of toasted chocolate and caramel malts.

After a miserable experience with their dunkel, I was a little apprehensive about this beer. I do enjoy a nice doppelbock and Celebrator has set the standards very high for me. The beer pours out a dark brown color, deep ruby red when held to a light. A one-finger thick off-white head floats atop the beer but quickly melts away leaveing little evidence there was a head in the first place. Aroma is roasted malts and light caramel. Nothing overly sweet or roasted. Flavor is the same with a little more sweetness showing on the palate, balanced out nicely with the acrid roast. A nice beer, nothing complex. Smooth finish, tasty. Recommended!
