Sample at the brewpub, the last drops of the keg. Hazy gold. Lovely bittersweet, the pepper adding warmth without dominating. Fine use of Nelson hops add a friuty dimension. Great beer.

On tap at the brewpub. Deep golden colour with an off-white head. Aroma is dust , orange, dust, peppar. Flavour is dust, orange, peppar, pine, yeast. Full body. Nicely carbonated. Nice beer.

Pours hazy deep golden with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, yeast, vinous, citrus and pepper. Taste is light to medium sweet and light to medium bitter with a long smooth, fruity, pineapple, yeasty and pepper finish. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

UPDATED: OCT 7, 2012 On tap @ Christianssand Brygghus. A hazy orange body with a nice, dense white head. Aroma is fruity, yeast, light citric hops and spicy with a hint of malt and flowers. Flavor is quite light with some subtle complexity of spices, yeast, fruit and a moderate but pleasant bitterness. Medium body with a really nice aftertaste, spicy farmhouse complexity and a hint of pepper further down the throat. A nice sample of a Belgium style Saison.

On tap at CB. Pours deep golden with a creamy off-white head. Aroma of spicy yeast, floral and citrus bubblegum hops. Flavor is sweet and fruity with some sour notes, warming pepper ,bitterness lime and pineapple. Medium body, average carbonation. Nice hoppy saison.

UPDATED: OCT 8, 2012 On tap at the brewpub. Thanks a million for making me a celebration beer, Iím deeply honoured! I have to admit Iíve been very exited since I heard some rumours of this beer, a bit nervous too, not knowing what kind of beer it would be, or if it would be something Iíd be pleased with at all. Finding out they made it a Pepper Saison made me super happy, and when I noticed all that lovely pink grapefruit, mmmmm. They all knew I love Saison, and they knew of my fascination for black pepper, but none of them knew of my love for pink grapefruit I think. Nice they went that way then.
Well, to the beer. Itís a lightly unclear one, golden-orange in color and topped by a nice-looking off-white head of finger-thick size. The aroma is on the citrusy side, with lots of pink grapefruit. A touch of grass, and a faint hint of black pepper. The pepper gets a bit more pronounced when the beer gets warmer, but itís still very subtle. Some hints of yeast are present. Itís full-bodied and quite dry, with a pleasant level of carbonation. A moderate to low level of bitterness supports the citrusy flavor. Lots of pink grapefruit there too, as well as some yeasty notes, grassy hints and a light peppery touch. Could maybe do even better with a more generous pepper addition, but that might also make it less appealing. Towards the end thereís still lots of pink grapefruit, and a nice touch of yeast and bitterness, and in the swallow you can still feel the pepper is there. Drinking it without knowing, and not really tasting, just swallowing, the pepper will probably go down un-noticed, but I liked the subtlety. Certainly a beer made the way Iíd do it myself for my celebration :-).
