2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 OlJuntan64 (1266) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - AUG 9, 2002
Golden amber-orange crystal clear with active quickly dissipating small yellow head. Soda pop, fruity (but no strawberries) extra malty aroma. Lowly carbonated English style ale mild bitter sweet palate. A very short bittery start jumping to a very bland middle and faint malty sweet bitter finish. Too simple for my taste.

Beautiful nose made of strawberry, fresh cut roses.Light carbonation, little head also.Body is a bit thin.Would have liked more complexity. What seems to be a great beer ends up being so-so.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 DougShoemaker (3149) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - APR 7, 2002
Raspberry scent, hazy peach/rose colour, big foamy head. Interesting sour fruit flavour, slightly bitter. Full bodied, complex. Intriguing.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 VENOM (941) - Connecticut, USA - FEB 8, 2002
Hazy apple cider appearance. Foamy off white head, small but tight. Light carbonation. Intriguing aroma. Doughy malts, yeast, mint, cardboard and berries. My initial taste impression - strawberry cream. Thick body, toasty and minty. Loaded with malts and spicy hops. Dryish despite the maltiness and fruity aspects. A sawdust aroma and flavor appears towards the end. This brewer is remarkable. The complexities are numerous and tasty to boot. Long finish and malty aftertaste. Thanks again Oakes. What else does he make?

Nice bottle. According to Michael Jackson this is one of the world’s great beers, but I found it very dry and bitter with some sweetness making it feel unbalanced.

Interesting beer i though, had a nice appearance (slightly red with a nice head), slightly sweet and sour on the tongue, bit of fruit in there aswell, but a bit syruppy and sticky at times. Pretty good though.

One of the highlights of the Upper Canadian beer calendar is the annual release of the Christmas gift packs every November. I make it a point to buy as many as I can, as there is no better way to build the glass collection and try some good oldies. I spent fifteen minutes trying to figure out why the Corona gift pack had glasses in it (how do you shove a lime wedge into a broad-rimmed glass? And what self-respecting Corona drinker would even use a glass? After all, using a glass is the beer drinking equivalent of flushing the toilet, and we all know Corona drinkers don’t do that every day...where was I? Oh yeah, my first gift pack this year was the Christoffel one, since you need to have the Blond fresh. But that also means I get to have a nice, fresh Robertus too! Luminous reddish-brown, cloudy Vienna lager; malty, a little alcohol showing as well in the nose and some toasted marshmallow. Smooth, malty palate with lots of Vienna malt and toffeeish notes. As far as Vienna lagers go, this is the antithesis of Eliot Ness, but they’re both among the top of the style.

The big bottle that it is sometimes provided in is the highlight fo this not even mediocre beer.
