Uit de 2l fles tijdens proefavond biergilde hoorn. Mahoniebruin met een redelijke crème schuimkraag. In de geur rozijnen karamel en rogge. In de smaak rum rozijnen en brood. Redelijke volle body met een trekkend mondgevoel.

Bottle from Mitra, where they are still sold, #1702, large sample. Slight hazy brown color, short frothy head. Aroma of caramel, raisin, chocolate, slight earthy hop, cookie, biscuit, slight hint of coffee even. Medium sweet in taste, slight bitter. Already a couple years old now, but it has matured wonderfully. Great big sipper.

Uit 2l fles tijdens proefavond biergilde hoorn. Bruin licht troebel bier weinig schuim. Geur van rum, rozijnen en caramel. Smaak voornamelijk zoet klein beetje zuur proef je erin. Is ook wel wat trekkend.

(2011) Tap at arendsnest, amsterdam. Reddish black color, small white head. Sweet licorice aroma, wood, some alcohol, roasty. Full bodied, strong licorice, wood, little alcohol but not disturbing, some roasted malts, balanced.

2 liter bottle, number 1827 if that says something, bought at my local Mitra, last year I think, so this is already two years old. Poured into a snifter after some trouble, it;s not easy to lift a two liter bottle with one hand. ABV 10.25% Very dark mahogany brown colour on the body, seems pretty clean when hold against the light, where it gives nice deep red ruby shades. Head is small, maybe even less than one finger, light beige in colour, with low retention. Almost non existent lacing on the glass. Aroma of candy sugar, lots of dark fruits, ripe pears, a bit of chocolate, some hints from the alcohol as well. Great taste, lots of chocolate along with vanilla notes, the alcohol very well hidden but also slighty notable at the end. Sweet but not overly sweet. The dark fruits flavours are also present, but they have moved on the background, more subtle now than the aroma let me to believe. Quite complex all in all. Mouthfeel on the other hand is quite thin , medium thin I would say, and carbonation is very low. You don’t day it watery, but surely light carbonation. A bit sticky on the palate. Overall, a nice barleywine

2 litre bottle @ Bart, shared with Bart en Rick, bougth @ Mitra. Pours muddy dark brown with no head. Intense malty nose with spices. Spicy taste with alcohol warmth and hops. No carbonation whatsoever. I don’t know if this was intended or if the bottle I had was spoiled but a little CO2 would have lifted the taste to a higher level. Long bittersweet aftertaste. A bit of a dissapointment to be honest.

On tap at Arendsnest. Dark brown with puffy head. Nose is faint with some caramel and hops in there. Taste is sweet, of caramel and spices. Barleys in there too. gets hoppier and bitter in the finish.
